American National .... also referred to as "Dash-N" where N = internal diameter of the fitting in sixteenth's of an inch ... Dash-8 is a fitting with internal diameter of half an inch.

Comes from US aircraft industry in WW2 when the Pom's asked the Seppo's to make engines for them (Packhard-built RR Merlins in the main). The Pom;s had fine and coarse threads, BSP and at least 2 others I have forgotten, so the Yank;s rammed thru a Unified National Fine (UNF) and Unified National Coarse (UNC) and a "tube" standard which was the AN or Dash series for inch-based measures.

All got screwed up with metric in recent years just to make it all more complicated as there are 3 metric thread pitches (at least).

car back on the dyno with the new pump and reg.

just got off the phone to UAS .
managed to get the boost down and holding at 19psi making 432rwkw so far with 2 people in the boot .. on shootout 6.

water temp only 83 degrees but dyno running hot needs to cool down :p

    Very nice work !!
Mine should be rocking up at their door on the 12th - hopefully I can pull some equally impressive numbers

Replaced the stock intank fuel pump with a walbro 340lph to feed the surge.

We were finding that pushing past this power level fuel pressure began dropping again :( .
upgrading the lift pump seems to have fixed it .. wouldn't think it would make a difference with a 4 litre surge tank .

the ethanol sensor only flows 200lph in the return line so the walbro will probably pressurise the surgetank at idle but not at open throttle.

not sure if this will be a good or bad thing .

I can easily tee off a bypass on the return line around the ethanol sensor if required.

could you use 2 sensors like what we do with running 2 afm's
that way you will get the 400lph your after.
and i think there a 5v sensor so you could use a stillin translator :)
MAYBE just thinking outside the box....

It's only an ethanol sensor so it measures the percentage of Ethanol in the fuel, you don't have to run ALL the fuel through the sensor, you just need to ensure it always gets SOME fuel through it. Kind of like the air temp sensor only needs to see some of the air not all of it.

Put the sensor direct in the tank?

fuel has to flow through the sensor for it to get a reading.
at least if you run 2 sensors you will always have a backup if one fails ;)

thats right mungyz ..as long as some goes through ..

can you see a problem with 340 lph in and 200lph out on idle though ?

all I can see is slight pump pressure build up which walbro can easily handle .

And I dont see any point running 2 sensors .. a by pass is simple

The 340lph will be at a given pressure so without knowing what restriction and therefore pressure the 200lph sensor is creating any answer is an educated guess.

Chuck a gauge inline between the feed pump and the surge tank, to test only what the biggish pump and smallish sensor is doing you will need to blank off the feed to the main fuel system otherwise any fuel pressure from the surge tank will try and feed the main fuel system also.

IE: isolate the system you want to test from the rest of the fuel system and then run the surge tank feed pump and test for pressure from the feed pump. It should be minimal maybe 15 - 20PSI.

Is there a picture of the tank with labels on the lines indicating each lines function?, there might be something that is being overlooked?

my setup is quite straight forward even though it looks complex .
6an circulating maintank to surge and back .
complete 8an circulating surge to rail and and back to surge (with 10an feeding pump)

but question remains can you see a 15 psi raise in surge a prob ?.. because I cant.

there is another race gtr at UAS that runs 2 x lift pumps dual 6an feed into to the surge tank and only one 6an return .. so keeping surge pressurised seems a good thing? same principle

I don't think you will have any problems from the basic design so long as everything is installed and running correctly.

How much fuel was in the main tank when you found the fuel pressure was dropping? the stock surge box in the OEM tank wont support big hp when you are low on fuel, the fuel pump can suck it out of the box faster than gravity can push it in there. But yeah same thinking as you the 4L in the surge tank should have supported a dyno pull surely.

Next dyno session take a hose from the return to the tank and run it into a 20L container, give the car a good hard full power pull and make sure you can still see sufficient fuel flow in to the container. Do this for both fuel systems - one at a time and obviously be sensible with where you have the hose and container etc

half tank of fuel ..admittedly was still running the 20 year old original intank pump which seems could've been a prob as fuel heats up.

everything is brand new so if it happens again then I'll do more tests like you said

    Picked the car up yesterday.

Threw some black paint over the primered guards ,quarters and rear bar so I'm not cop bait .

Put my wheels on and took it for a spin ..

This engine is ridiculously "responsive "
With the semi slicks warm I'm getting full traction in 3rd gear .

Time to finish off the body work, need to modify where the SPL front guards and front bar meet ,they are 25mm wider but curve back in to meet the front bar.(arrows)
Have to modify the bar (and guards) to make it wider..about 30- 40mm (red line)
This is because I run full size tyres with toe out.
really looking forward to this

Almost a perfect fit. .just a slight grind of the inner tabs where they meet the bar ...but these are the SPL ones ,can't tell you about the other ones.

From a guy on twin turbo.net.

SPL stopped making these over 5 years ago.

I bought these over 2 years ago
