Any chance of a picture or two of inside that hole to see how much space there is available?

Yes, lifts on the passenger side. Can't attempt to adjust it yet since you cut out above the hood bump stops

that's probably one of the smartest things i've seen, did you use sikaflex to stick it?

Did you ever get to the bottom of your idle issue?

I have one, too... It creeps up to 1100 or if I adjust the idle screw thingo at the back of the plenum, I can get it to run well for a couple of days and then it either goes too low and fluctuates before it gets hot and flattens out, or it goes too high and I have to lower it again...

Also, just having a think about what you said RE my car getting too hot (90), do you think me not having any under tray on would have anything to do with it? I've got the FMIC blocking the radiator and there is a huge gap for air to escape before it gets drawn through the rad.

I'll fit the tray when I'm back in QLD and then if that doesn't work I may try a new viscous fan.

can someone explain to me why 90 is too hot when the aux fan only comes on after 105 anyway?

It's not "too" hot. Doesn't damage the engine, the coolant isn't gong to boil... in fact the engine probably runs more efficiently at 90 than it does at 80.

It is however about 10* hotter than the average owner reports their car to run. So may be indicative of a problem.

My car gets to 90 on boost, doesn't bother me...

I reported that my car got to 90 on the average drive on a hot day. Which means I give it the odd kick in the ass. If I drive it really sedately, I'll get 85.

I've done it, works OK but in my case it hasn't held up very well. To get the dash down you need to warm it up with a hair dryer or similar.

I think to do a really good job you'd need the dash out, clean both surfaces, apply sikka and clamp.

I think so, but I haven't driven my car since the "fix". IACV plug was shagged, crumbling apart. While idling, jammed it on and found it fixed the idle issue - went for a drive, issue came back, checked and plug was off. I've replaced it so I hope that's the only issue.

80 is what stocker Z32's run at, hotter during/after a thrash I'd expect but the rest of the time should be at low 80's. With my NA front and FMIC I run at about 82. My whole cooling system is brand new and I've removed the AC condenser. Before I replaced my clutch fan (and I ran about 20* hotter), the installation of an under tray dropped running temperatures 5*. I'd recommend it for sure, probably be running hotter without it.
Why are you surprised? Worked a treat. Needs a small amount of touching up in one place (it's hard to spread the glue consistently when you can't see what you're applying it too) but it's almost perfect. The pool noodle held it down very evenly. I did it on a stinking hot day in direct sunlight for what it's worth.

Looks funny. Both my Z32's had a lifting dash, and to be honest I never noticed it apart from when outside the car. Now it's flatter. Neato I guess.
