Airconditioning fan?

Hello. I went to get my aircon regased yesterday, and the guy warned me that my aircon fan wasnt blowing any air when aircon was activated. On the regas unit he had, he had two gauges and he said that temps were getting too high while he was regasing.. which would increase pressure and that it was dangerous.

Whats the wiring like for the fan? Is it supposed to kick in automatically when I press A/C, or is it programmed to start some other time?

The fan he showed me sits before the radiator. He tested temps by running water under the t-pipe and temps went down dramatically.

Does it sound like I need a new fan? Both he and I didn't have the time to take off the grill to see.. but he suggested I go to any autoelectrician to check wiring too.

Pull the plug off the temp sender while the car is running (be careful of the fan) and you should hear the aircon fan start up. If it doesn't, replace it. It's not uncommon for the aircon fan to fail.

Check that the fan relays are actually there too. In the large fuse box in the front corner of the engine bay. One is called Sub fan, I forget the other one, but it will be fan something I would imagine :D

There is a way you can bridge the connectors in the fuse box to give power direct to the fan too, but might be best to get the electrician to do it unless your sure what your doing.

The other thing is, the AC fan I don't think always come on, here is some info from the tech section.

The NA Z32 has a single speed auxiliary fan. The following specs are for the NA fan, and come from the Nissan service manual. Temps are in Fahrenheit:

A/C off, coolant temp below 219 = fan off
A/C off, coolant temp above 221 = fan on
    A/C on, vehicle speed < 24mph, coolant below 201 = fan off
    A/C on, vehicle speed < 24mph, coolant above 203 = fan on
    A/C on, vehicle speed > 25mph, coolant below 219 = fan off
    A/C on, vehicle speed > 25mph, coolant above 221 = fan on

The TT Z32 has a two speed fan. The following specs are for the TT fan, and also come from the Nissan service manual with temps in Fahrenheit:

A/C off, coolant temp below 219 = fan off
A/C off, coolant temp above 221 = fan on
A/C on, vehicle speed < 24 mph, coolant between 194-210 fan = low speed
A/C on, vehicle speed < 24 mph, coolant above 212, fan = high speed
    A/C on, vehicle speed > 25mph, coolant below 219 = fan off
    A/C on, vehicle speed > 25mph, coolant above 221 = fan on

So the fan won't come on until all the criteria above are met, and in my experience your average auto electrician does not know this.
That's why my electrician decided to (without my knowledge or approval) fix this by drilling a hole in the inner guards to add in his own relay setup. Not happy. Especially when there was 100 places he could have attached it to!
