Just wondering how much power you can get from a stock 300zxtt with say KKR280's , intercooler and 3" turbo back system?

With out pushing the engine and killing the life quicker then needed.
Just wondering as im pulling the engine out very soon and want to get intercooler , replacment turbos and 3" turbo back system. but want to know a safe number to push it too without causing damage to any of the stock components.
Or if anyone else is running the same type of set up at the moment,
    Any advice would be great.

    Cheers...........

    Your problem will be injectors.
Stock injectors will push maybe 270-280rwkw, but more reliably for daily driving about 250 rwkw

i would be happy with that just want a quick car but too so quick that it will cause damage to the stock engine.

    Thanks mate

Well the 3" system is already on the car the left turbo needs a seal kit so i was thinking of getting 2 x new KKR280's while the engine is out.
And intercooler as well as 100km service , all new gaskets , oil , plugs and dyno tune.
I dont want it pushed to its limits in the tune becuase i want it to last awhile after all this work.
But also want it quicker then stock - so just looking at what number would be even for life and power.

You cannot extract ''X'' hp from an engine....

A competent tuner will build safe fuel & timing maps for your car on a dyno.

The resultant hp "is what it is"

If you wish the tuner to extract more hp then you have 3 choices..... leaner mixture, more timing or more boost. All these options will narrow (or eliminate) your engines margin of safety.

Yes, you will get more hp but your engine is more likely to go bang

If a motor is fully tuned to the best of its "safe" capabilities and only produces 300rwhp, then that's it

Don't worry about your cousin who has similar mods to you (and can never find his dyno sheet) but gets 1000rwhp ;) because there'll always be a bloke down the pub that puts out 100 more hp than him at half the revs

they do bolt on as such but modifications will be required, as will new oil and water lines, etc.

How reliable are KKR turbos would they hold up as good as the garrett items do ?

I have not heard much about kkr

    cheers

I dont want to say too much since i havent personally used tehm and since at least 1 forum member is trying to shift a set. But, i have heard of premature failures, they were used a bit in the LS1 circles as a few TT kits supplied them , a year down the track most of these guys have gone to garretts.

Seem to be fairly good on skylines and stuff but then turbo replacement is easier on those so its not a huge deal if one falls over.

If i was looking for a cheap stock alternative id be looking at the hypergear turbos

The kkr's got bit of a bad wrap on the ls1's due to high turbine speed produced by the 5.7. They were getting pushed to close to the limit. Gentt has now switched to gd2833's which have a fair bit larger flow capacity. They are still made by the same company.

As said they have a fairly good record in the skyline/silvia crowd so they must be doing something right.

The 2 I have, I pulled them both apart and they are quite good quality both in build and design. I have quite lot of experience rebuilding turbos so feel I m in a position to know what is what.

To compare the kkr or hypergears to garret is not a fair argument, they are in 2 completely different price brackets. For a budget build the kkr or hypergears win every time. IMHO a $3-4000 turbo kit is ridiculous.

When pushed hard all the cheap turbos will fail, if used within there limits they are usually ok. Just thoroughly inspect them on arrival, any dramas contact the seller. As with anything out of china, the QA can be a bit lapse sometimes. Remember, most genuine parts now come out of china (yes even garrett), india or mexico, there is no issues with the manufacturing, they just let a few more bad apples out the door.

The only mods to bolt on are clocking, mod both wastegate brackets, new oil feeds and mod intake pipes. This is all easily done if you are a little diy.
The coolant lines and drains bolt up. Flanges are T25 so fit the manis no problems.

I would be looking at kkr330 with optional 0.62 turbines. The 280's are only slightly bigger than stock.

I know a few of the Skyline guys have complained about the power delivery of the KKR's, lag lag lag BANG kick in the head power late in the rev range, but not huge power. Only what I've read, never driven/been in a car with one.
