    Hi everyone,

I know this may be an unpopular topic for many of you, as most people dont like converting a manual to an auto but any help would be appreciated.

Does anybody know of anybody or any garage in the Perth area that would be able to convert a manual to an auto. I am not experienced with cars so I would prefer to get a proffesional to do it rather than myself.

The car is a 1992 NA Manual, and if there is anybody on this forum that has done something like this before, could you please give me some sort of idea as to what the cost would be?

Again any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Thats easy, sell the manual car and go buy your self a auto one :p

I really dont see the point of converting cars that have plenty of both trans options. To much time and money involved if you ask me.

May I ask why you wish to change to auto?

I had a manual for my first car which was a Ford Probe and I being a lazy guy I just preffered to drive an auto, so I sold the probe and Im now looking for an auto 300zx.

I have been to see 5 auto 300's that have come up on the market in the last 3 months that were within my budget but all of them have lied and Ive gone to see them and they are in poor condition.

It just seems that manuals tend to come up for sale a lot more often, and there are plenty of awesome 300's up for sale and they are all manual. So I thought I would like to get some information if I ever purchased a manual how much effort and money would have to go into getting it converted.

It also doesnt help with me being only 17 so no turbo or TT for me, so when searching for a ZX Im looking purely for a NA Auto and sometimes it takes some time to find the car for you.

hey there If you are in WA like your location is set to I am sure you can drive a tt on your P's I would not normally suggest it to a learner driver due to many other factors however, I know P platers can drive big V8's so cant see the turbos being an issue like in other states either. If however the restriction is due to other influences (parents, insurance, anything else) please dont take this as a reason to ignore them. While learner drivers can operate a V8 here the amount of P Plates I see in the V8's coming into our panel shop says there may be a valid reason to restrict them.

My parents will not allow me to get a turbo or TT, even if they did the insurance (if I could get it insured) would kill me.

    Fair call.

I know my kids wont be getting in my turbo when they learn to drive, in the end a conversion manual to auto is going quite different than the opposite, we can run a manual on an auto ecm but not the other way around, so you would need a new ecm also not sure about the harness I am picking that the solenoids in the auto tranny do not have equivalents on a manual so you would need at least a partial harness.

IMO you are better off either staying manual (resale should be easier with that as well) or buying an existing auto as mentioned before.
