Paul, do you or anyone else know how many revs the car will be doing at 100Klm/hr in 5th with these gears in?

    ...UPDATE on the 2007 run.......

.......I have just ordered the last of our (Aust) allocation of four sets.:)

.......Out of the 54 sets in total that were manufactured this time around there are only 10 left!!!!!!!!! They went quicker than I thought they would, in a matter of days apparently.

......Anyone else want a set?????:) Only 10 left in the US:)

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

If an NA has the same size tyres and the same 5th gear ratio, shouldn't that be an accurate guide?

Also shouldn't it be a simple numerical calculation? If the ratio moves from 3.69 to 4.11 thats roughly an 11.4% increase, so shouldn't revs at a given speed also rise by 11.4%? In my manual TT with stock diff, 100kmh in 5th is 2500rpm, so I would expect to be turning around 2785rpm in 5th at 100kmh.

In about a months time I hope to be able to confirm this :D :D :D :D. If my maths is up shit creek, blame my teacher - he certainly couldn't get me to come to grips with calculus!

    .....another UPDATE......

.......:) all the gears ordered for Oz have left the US, including yours midnite:) We only have to wait for the ship now and hope Murphy is not the Captain:D

.......ALSO there are now only 8 sets left in the US, does anyone else want a set before they become extinct?:zlove:

    Revs with Leader gears.....

Graham, your revs will rise to 2600rpm @ 100km/hr (2350rpm oem)

Personally, I think they are a backwards step unless you are into the drags, circuit racing or maybe if you have an auto. As a road car I like the tt's longer gearing and it's not as if it's short on torque

If you have a lower compression ratio like me then they

are great for making up the loss in torque. With 8.0:1 compression ratio you notice a big drop in low rev range torque so hopefully these will bring back the tyre frying torque :)

Sort of true I think. I was going to get a set and sort of help instigate this GB in a way. I did a fair amount of research and track testing with my standard diff monitoring the number of gear changes and revs at different track points etc. I came up with a lot more gear changes being needed if using these gears whether or not the lap times would have been any quicker due to slightly better accleration could not be determined I concluded that any difference in accelaration would most likely be cancelled out by changing gears more frequently.

So comes down to wanting them or not really.

    Cheers

    .....the only......

........accurate way to tell if the 4.10 gears work is to have them fitted or speak to someone who has actually got them fitted, like JT or Fleet who race frequently. am biassed of course because I sell them,;) BUT, before I became a distributor I fitted them to my own Zed and noticed a streak of difference and with no extra gear changes I might add.:) The car felt like it had an extra 50HP at least with the lower gearing getting me along a lot faster.:) Also one of the US guys has a testimonial on my website broadcasting the difference it made and the time improvement to his Zed dragster. :zlove: It is well known that the three best ways to get faster laps is with more HP, less weight, and lower gearing to match the first two.:) together with driver improvement of course.

I have raced with JT a bit over the last few months and discussed gear changes in particular and he does change more compared to me. Also at the drags I can redline in third gear and cross the finish line with the lower gearing I would have to change into fourth which would add time.

I think one day when the new engine is in and maybe a 6 speed finds its way into the car the lower gear set would help but for now still not convinced.

Dont take it as a product bagging far from it actually I spent heaps of time on the phone with Mark Leader about these gears and think they are great for street cars and maybe for the track but yet to be seen. Will have to do some more comparo work with JT and see the differences.

    ...Hey....

.....with the 4.10 gears at the drags, you may get there quicker anyway with less revs perhaps;) As for gear changing, it would be good for JT to comment on whether he changes more WITH the gears than he did WITHOUT the gears. At the moment we are just hearing about a comparison with a stock geared Zed and a 4.10 geared Zed and who knows what else in the driver style comparison:cool: I did not take your comments as a bagging, I am just entering the conversation offering information for consideration. Cheers:zlove:

.....as for the6 Speed, according to the US guys, Mark Leader included, the best combination for the track would be the 4.10 diff gears, the Quaife Diff, and the HKS 6 Speed Tranny, so you are on the right track Jason:)

No worries Paul will talk to him about it when he is back from PI and will take note at round 2 at Eastern Creek and post up a comparo then. I would also assume as you mentioned driving style would play a big roll too I think. The V8 supercar guys actually change there diff ratios to suit different tracks so there is probably merit in it I am just not sure at the level my car is at whether it would have been worth it to spend that sort of money on a such a relatively small potential improvement. So yeah was personal choice and I didnt want to post up my thoughts back then while the gb was going on.

    Have a great easter Paul

    Talk soon

The way I look at it is that for the future racing car. You should have the gears set up in two diffs.

PI should have the stock ratio, But for Winton the 4.01's would probably be better.
