As you all would know I am still recovering from the effects of my HICAS system's Acid Trip. By ninjamason at 2010-12-14 By gargoyle123 at 2010-12-14 There has been a lot of debate about which way to go with the repair - (1) replace subframe and repair panel damage or - (2) Purchase Miksta's rolling shell and transplant engine, gearbox, interior etc. After many pieces of advice and much debate I decided to go with option (1). I picked up a really good condition subframe from ChilledPain (Jamie) *cheers mate* and transported it home in Gargoyle's Carbon-Fibre Laser. Basically, I got home with the subframe and this is what we were dealing with By gargoyle123 at 2010-12-14 So John and I got to it, pulled the exhaust, disconnected everything and dropped the dif and sub-frame in one piece. Looking at all the filthy parts I decided if we were going to drop the dif and go to this much trouble, may as well clean everything up nice and tidy So John got scrubbing and I got painting (I think I got the good end of that deal LMAO) When we attached the dif to the new sub-frame, I dropped the wheel hub on my finger... it hurt So now it was time to install our revamped dif & sub-frame assembly! Gargoyle was brought to his knees :zlove: A true Zed enthusiast Everything was reinstalled relatively easy, except the first time we tried to put the sub-frame back in, I kinda mighta said to John that it was all lined up and it wasn't We got it in the second time though The exhaust and wheels were all that was left!!! John and I did this over two days in the blistering hot 40degree heat (no shade) I felt a HUGE sense of accomplishment after completing this job. I have learnt heaps and now only have the panel work to be done. Panel beater reckons 1 grand should cover it. Overall I am very happy with the result and at least now my car is driveable again A massive thanks to John for all his extremely useful help through this ordeal. Also I wanna thank ChilledPain for the sub-frame (He's always got the parts I need lol) Big thanks to Miksta for providing option (2) He didn't pressure me and wanted to make sure I had no regrets. And lastly thanks goes to Vader, MichAndy and all the boyz (you know who you are) for all the help and support offered. P.S. Unlike most trips, I got back home this time My Zed drives great again!!!
Lovely storty Good to see it's back. And 1k sounds pretty good to fix that bent panel work. Post some more pics when it's all done
well done, guys ...... with those brilliant car stands (aka blocks of red gum ..!!!) you are looking at the 2011 title of "dodgy repairs p/l" ... lol....
Well done guys. Now if you just get a bent piece of wood to lay beside the dent it will look straight.
Yeah the chocs of wood are justr a safety precaution. We used 2 car stands, 2 jacks and 4-6 blocks of wood. Because we didn't have a hydrolic jack we had to improvise by jacking and choccing as we could not move the dif around while it was on standard nissan jacks. But yes I agree, it does look dodgey
Well done Good job guy's, Adam, you must be happy . John, you said you didnt know much about fixing zeds , just proved yourself wrong mate :zlove: Andy
Glad to be of service m8 Good to see she's driving again too! Let us know how the panel work goes m8.
Yep, I'll be posting pics of the before and after shots as soon as the panel work is completed! Then I can finally start think about the parts I don't need again LMAO
The only problem I see is the title of this thread. I see a zed, but can't seem to see any idiots. Well done guys.
Agree with vader, had my rear subframe out recently along with many other things when i went down to a shell... its not so much a hard job its just fiddly and heavy etc, and given you cant pull it out through the top i think its worse than an engine pull, so top work guys... that sill damage it going to be a bit of work though. but you guys seem competent enough. nicely done. Skid.
Cheers, Boys. I was a lot of hard work but we hope it can be inspirational to others that are not confident. If we can do it anyone can! Thanks for the compliment Vader, we are kidding about the title but it really was like an episode of Faulty Towers in some areas. Poor Gargoyle had me telling him things were where they should when they clearly were not. Now Gargoyles talking about 600HP on his beast and my head is spinning.
