Alrighty, i know there is no such animal but i was wondering if it would doable and how much would someone expect to have to pay for the custom fabrication of this 5-10k? Im talking welding in metal here. Im sick of the targa seals leaking, i've only taken the targas off 3 times in the last 2 years, and when parked in the sun the glass roof makes the car an inferno inside. My other option would be to take out the glass panels and replace with metal/ fiberglass and insulate them then just silicon the seals and targas on. What do you guys think of a 2+2 slicktop? I think it would look awesome! :zlove: Feedback away!!!!

I believe UAS sell carbon fiber targas, or at least just glass replacements.

I can't give you a figure, but it wouldn't be cheap to have it welded up and smoothed over. Many hours of labour, particularly I would imagine around the door seals to make sure they still function. You'd need to account for the interior as well - custom fabrication as well as a retrim over the top of it.

Cheaper to replace the seals! Just put the shades on and leave the window open a crack when you park in the sun.

It has come up before, using a roof cut from a trashed slicktop 2 seater and getting a coach builder to fit/stretch would be the way.

Would be under $5k I think.

In my mind, it would be a total waste of time and money and a subsequent disaster in regards to re-sale value(although this last point is somewhat irrelevant given the plummet that is currently happening).
Targa Tops are a selling point in many peoples eyes(and can be a buying point also).
I personally would never consider it, and I find it difficult to imagine what possible benefit could be obtained from so doing.

For your personal info, some time ago JP at AUS found that NISSAN Japan did list a 2+2 steel roof panel as a stock item(although no-one has ever admitted to having seen one in the flesh).:zlove:

Rumour has it there was a part number for a 2+2 slicktop roof section. Have a search through the old threads, UAS mentioned something about it years ago.

    EDIT

I chased that down and think it was a misinterpretation of FAST that lead to that. Will look again. BRB

ABZ is making the same assumption UAS did.

The way in which Nissan FAST breaks down into sections is the key, section 730 is "Roof Panel & Fitting", section 730 is always that regardless of model, R32,R33,Z31 etc etc, it just so happens there are 3 roof option on the Z32 so they are grouped in together, in the below picture you will see the slicktop is part code 73111 you will also see that the T-Top section is also 73111, this is where the confusion starts if you have started the search with just a Z32 model detail rather than full JDM VIN code, you click on the 73111 part code on the picture of the slicktop and it appears to give you a list of options for including a slicktop, it is simply showing all the 73111 part code roof options, if you put a proper VIN in it will only show you the roof section for your car.

THERE IS NO OEM SLICKTOP PANEL FOR A 2+2.

cutting and welding would be ideal..

but would you use a roof out of a 300zx?

i personally wouldnt.. look into more common cars at the wreakers, and get it cut to size.. then weld it together. bit of bog where needed and it would work out good..

go for it i say. dont listen to the nay sayers and remember its YOUR car. YOU do what YOU want.

That only works for intelligent ideas. OP would be better of spending the money on brand new targa seals if he's worried about the leaks.

this. I think more relevantly as it IS his car etc etc is that 5k could be spent on a zed a LOT better elsewhere.

Just silicon your targas shut and spray paint them. Problem solved.

You never included a standard of quality :D

There are a few hard top race cars that have been made by Nissan on the 2+2 long wheel base as they found it more suitable than the short wheel base for racing, doubt they would have bothered with back seats on any of them though :D

or weld in a new roof, and paint fake targas on top.

Hahah why bother painting on fakes ? If anything black out the whole roof like urhyns has done (i think his is a slicktop...)

Some people can't part with losing their accessability to targas :(
