what's the most frustrating mod or maintenance you have done?

mine would have to be changing my steering wheel over from stock, i had extreme problems where i had to destroy my old wheel to get it off and then my boss kit wouldn't fit properly:mad: spent about half an hour swearing and carrying on and another hour fabing up a alloy plate to fit.

theres been others but this one pissed me off the most!

i think the best part is when it all goes together and you realize how much of a dickhead you are for carrying on like an idiot

    so what's made you tick??

    cheers mike

it would have to be changing the springs. trying to chang back to stock springs if you have already changed them once. trying to clamp the sucker enough to get it to fit back on the car!!!! when you just cant squeez it enough to get it back in!!! and then when you finaly do you realise the you cant get the spring clamp off the spring because you cant get a spanner in there to relise the tension!!!!!!!!! is sux real bad balls.

Why are you compressing the springs to get them back in the car? Once they're bolted to the shock the whole assembly should slot back in. Shouldn't need much compression, just wedge the suspension assembly down with some wood. Though I guess getting taller stock springs back in might be a bit harder I guess.

EDIT: changed my mind, most frustrating mod/maintenance was getting the clamps back on my new PCV valves/hoses a couple of years ago, plenum on  A lesson for all to have better needle nose pliers than me :p

    A water line...

Well not a mod but maintenance, just 2 days ago I had to replace a coolant line because of a water leak. I've done the heater core bypass because it got leaky, easy enough. Did the under plenum bypass when I did a plenum pull, easy enough. Both Turbo water lines went ages ago and instead of tackling it myself (I was pretty hopeless with cars at this stage) I went to nissan and got raped to the tune of like... $350 each line, lol. Would have been a shit job though.
Anyway the coolant line I replaced was on the passengers side, its about 3 inches long and connects 2 small metal hardpipes to each other. It's behind the turbo intercooler pipe so that had to come of. I think its for the turbo water line, and it comes off the hose you do the big bypass for when you do the plenum pull. It was shagged, had bloated up real good and split. Was all crackly and brittle. I had to take off the tubing I had made up for my catch can. The water hardline was held on by a little bracket that bolted up to the engine bracket, which was a pretty crap job to get off, ended up getting it off with a tiny socket and uni joint, like 1/8 of a turn each time lol, because the bracket angles downwards - bloody stupid idea.
Getting the hose to fit back onto the 2 pipes was a massive PITA, was tighter than a fish's ass (that's watertight :p) I used fuel hose clamps instead of these little spring clamps for insurance that it'd never come loose again. The bloody threads on them kept on hitting the engine block so they had to be taken off and rotated once or twice, which was a PITA.
So its all done and then the stupid little 10mm screw that holds the bracket onto the engine bracket will NOT GO BACK. Impossible to get to. Sweared at it for like an hour or 2. Ended up fabbing up an alloy bracket that bolted to the top of the engine bracket and a spare bracket bit on the water hardpipe instead. What a crap job.....
Out of curiosity, is there one of these lines on the drivers side too? Hope not, lol.

Well I don't know what Craig thinks..But I remember this was frigging annoying..changing a vacuum line that went just behind the throttle bodies..couldn't get our fingers in there, so had to remove the throttle bodies..and well lets just say you know that stuff called "Lock tight"..well it must have been spread all over the bolts holding the throttle body in place..as Craig had to literally crack each bolt about 30 or so times ...by the end of it he was screwed..

    *waits to hear a reply*

Changing the clutch, worst thing I have ever done on a Z. Pulling a enging is a pleasure in comparison!

With suspension you defiately don't need compressors to get the assembley back in. Bush down on the hub and that will give you enough room to slot them back in. You have to push down quite hard sometimes, like jumping on the hub hard...

The power steering pivot bolts a tricky thing to get back in place if you take it out... no really a mod though .

o2 sensors & dump pipes where frustrating also , mainly due to bolts being corroded and stuck in place.

Stock hicas bar took a bit of convincing to come out ( with the angle grinder :p )
Thats mainly cos I need to buy more tools though
Most 'pull apart, bolt back on' jobs are fairly easy though imo just takes time and patience.

Needle nose pliers does the job, also pulling the coilpack's out just beside them. ;)
