Nulon 10w - 30w fast-flow for turbo engines used it for 9 years no problems engine runs quiet as a mouse
I've ALWAYS had a slightly noisy... ...lifter or three. As long as I've had my Z I'd always have a slight tap at start-up that would disappear once operating temps were reached. I've just done an oil change with Mobil1 15w50 and for the first time in 13 years I get absolutely no lifter tick at start-up. I sometimes don't drive my Z for 2-3 weeks and it used to be especially bad if it was left more then a week... but now no noise whatsoever even after sitting for 3 weeks. Plenty of weights available in Mobil1 through GL Lubricants and I'm going to stick with Mobil1 from now on, and it's dirt cheap compared to buying locally. Stuff like the Mobil1 10W-30 EP(Extended Performance) might be the perfect choice. Not available in Australian market. http://www.gllubricants.com/index.php?p=1_3_Mobil-Pricelist
By clean, I mean its much much darker than normal, Obviously blackened, BUT when I put my fingers through it, Its almost translucent. Its obviously still capable of collecting much more in the way of contaminants before its actually DONE. Mind you the insides of my engines are VERY VERY clean. I am just changing it early............... @ 10,000 klms.
My old commodore did the same thing, its the thicker oil I think you'll find not the brand that actually helped there in that case
Well The last oil I used was Shell Helix Ultra 15w 50... had a 20 liter drum of this and I used this for a few years, before this I was using Redline 10w 40 and before this Valvoline. I think the Mobil1 is especially good as it does not drain out of the top of the engine as quickly as other full synthetics of a similar weight. I'm just stoked to have zero lifter tick @ start-up. :zlove:
Another thing. One other thing, over the years I've perhaps seen ten in depth oil reviews with testing results... Redline, Amsoil, Royal Purple etc. I've NEVER see Mobil1 rated poorly in any of these tests, in the middle somewhere sure, or even leading the 'cheaper brands' but never the worst.
OH, is that so? A lot of the yanks say good things about Mobil oil, maybe I should give it a try next oil change. I haven't gotten any lifter tick since I have been using Penrite 15W-40 though, but I am always on the market for trying new things!
Nothing wrong with Penrite Since you mention it - I use Penrite 15w-40 myself and haven't had any lifter tick since changing from Valvoline - so Penrite isn't that bad as some would suggest Mobil 1 is supposed to be one of the leading oils in knock/shear/bearing tests just behind amsoil, so it cant be too bad either :zlove:
