Today; rebuilding the power steering pump prior to install. My previous motor had a de-vaned TT pump but I have an NA one to cut down on some space and weight. I used one of the seal kits available on my website and a bearing from the local auto store. Didn’t take many pics but here we go. Everything ready for reassembly. The pump has been painted with some VHT chassis and roll bar paint cause that’s what I had laying around. It dries pretty hard and is black, so job done lol. And back together. New fasteners of course. A mixture of SS and zinc plated 8.8, simply because the M10x1.25 for the body were going to be a little hard to get in SS in a hurry.
Little bit more going on fitting the UAS/RGS front upper control arms. These are replacing the UAS version 1 arms that have been in the car since about 2007. Side by side the new arms are much beefier, specifically the threaded adjustment section. The later style arms also pivot on a bush in the centre rather than using a heim joint at one end. The adjustment lock nut is accessible on the inside so that the arms can be easily adjusted on the car.
Bit more work for the evening. These are a heap easier to fit when there’s no wiring harness, turbos, down, pipes, manifolds to get in the way lol This is pretty much how she’ll sit until the fabricator is ready to build me some manifolds.
Looking neat and tidy! Refreshing to see a nice, understated engine. CAM gears, CAS and R35 coils look neat. What injectors and rail are you running? Top mount with BDE rail? I saw you selling the link, what ECU are you going with?
Cheers! Cheers! Yes I sell and have fit a bunch of the BDE gear and the rails are top quality; that's exactly what I'll be using on my own car. I used to hate a customer when workshops would have one standard for their shop car, and another that was good enough for customers. Everything that's being used on this build is the same as what I sell and recommend to anyone else. I have some Injector Dynamics 1700cc fuel injectors for it. Ummm that's more of an opportunity thing. The Thunder is a really good ECU and has some useful features (onboard thermocouple control for eg) that you don't get on even the very top of the line Haltechs. I advertised it when I started packing; if I can sell it at a price where I don't take too much of a kick in the balls and avoid packing and storing it I will do that and then see what's on the market when I actually need one. Otherwise it can get packed and stored and quite happily used on the car.
1700cc, I have read through your build but remind me of your power target (I know it's high). Somewhere around 900hp? Chuck the ECU in the boot of the car! Better than losing a few hundred
Nope - using the new G25 series. That's why I need manifolds fabbed rather than using the MSP ones I have in a box
Yes of course but I have learnt from previous mistakes so those and my RobZ throttle bodies will only be sold after the replacement parts are complete and working.
I'm keeping some things a bit tight until it's done and working. Not JEM who are making the steam pipe ones that have been getting around on facebook. If it's a success then jigs will be the next step so that they can made available to others.
Ok interesting, haven't seen the JEM ones, was actually wondering if it was 6Boost, CRG, Sinco or the like... Have seen some awesome new stuff start to come out using 3D printed inconel manifolds as well recently.
Ah OK - they've done a set for another member. Looks like they will perform well but the wastegate tube comes off the turbine housing (as in welded onto the turbo) which I don't really like at all as zero possibility of reversion and not really end user friendly. Made a start on the rear end of the car. Ages back I bought a diff from another member that had been rebuilt with leader 4.1 gears and a quaife centre. The cover was glued on with some sort of super snake oil so I ended up having to jack it off using the bolt holes for the speed sensor. I have a new cover for it that has been modified for higher capacity and better cooling. I have also had it graphite coated like my intercooler to promote thermal dispersion. Pressed some new Nismo bushes in. Found that the wheel speed sensors were fouling on the gears on installation so I spaced them out with some lock washers. I didn’t supply the core for the diff cover so I’m hoping this is due to the flange being machines after welding or similar and not a clue as to something else going on... And assembled ready for install. With new hardware of course.
Little bit more going on with reassembly of the rear sub frame. I had it powder coated silver to match the look of the Nismo suspension components that you can’t actually but for Z32 lol. Am using SPL alloy sub frame bushes and Nismo diff bushes in the back.
may interest you to know that we did a version with a set wastegate off the manifold design as well. Changed it to off the turbine housing after seeing a GTR set up perform really well on G series similar to this. the only difference with the manifold placement was it became rather tight to maintain the 40m wastegate pipe down to the screamer/exhaust past the firewall. In saying that- each to their own. It is pretty cool that the wastegate and turbo can be removed engine in sub 1hr and then the manifolds also can be taken out engine in.
Boost control will be accurate which is good. But you won’t be able to run different turbos, change housings, run those turbos oknoyher manifolds, and it’s not something that you yourself could install. Too many not goods to do it like that.
agreed- it’s totally a - one Fit- sort of job. I’m not sure why I would want to change though unless the larger housing lol
