you might want to clarify as to whether or not you are reproducing the ENTIRE sill, or just the illuminated insert, that the buyer then has to cut into his OEM black plastic sills. Somebody on the UK forum has been reproducing the inserts only, and has posted the results. Rather smart looking, and without a doubt the best alternative to genuines. The only produced duplicates were the SMITHY's PLACE stainless steel sills.... which, in comparison to the genuine Aluminium Altias, were kind of horrendous. The rise at the rear, where it fits over the door rubber, was a triangular pressed section, which was then welded onto the sill for the Smithy's duplicates... then the issues Pex had with them not sealing properly and burning out the EL strips. GZA did have a prototype set, which thankfully (mostly for me with my collection of Altia gear) never went into production. (Though my genuine Ti key set became worthless after his other releases) The quality of them looked to be as good as the originals. Oh, and no difference between the 2+2 and 2+0 sets. You will come into some issues with fitting them, as they cant just be wired in parallel with the interior light. The circuit is utilised, to an extent, but additional wiring and a relay has to be incorporated into the installation.
OK thanks. So 2+2 & 2+0 "Scuff Plates". Are the same. Sorry to smeg up another thread. If you can offer them in the same colour OE. It will help to boost sales. So if you were going to do this by painting. You could just order them in stainless and then prep/paint them afterwards.
Looks to be quite a bit of interest. Next question what finish would you like. I know there are a few that would like black but that may be something you need to do yourself (paint?). Would people prefer a polished chrome look or the silver look seen in the photo's? I might start a new pole for this.....
still requesting that bit of clarification- you're going to duplicate the entire sill, or just the insert? http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?p=305800 Link to the original Smithy's Place sills that were once available in Stainless Steel. Might wanna check with your manufacturer if they can make them out of Aluminium, same as the Altia ones. Will allow for getting the press much better, rather than having to weld the rear corner piece in.
New Information It has come to my attention that one of our forum members is already working on this product. In light of this and the fact that he has already spent some time on the project (and money no doubt), I will step back and let him take it to production. If he decides not to at any time I'll pick it up again then. Thanks all for your interest and it looks like you will be getting something in the near future.
Awwww man I sad to hear that...... I was getting so excited......They were so cheap too....Smithys ones are around $400 oh well.. EDIT.... Actually I just checked and smithies ones arent available anymore....... who is this other member on the forum offering these sills?
I will take black with blue illumination. I am also interested in just the illuminated inserts if that were to go ahead.
