Stock power, auto engine vs manual

Just some quick background. My car pulled 200kw at the dyno day, and closer to 220kw at 14-15psi. The problem was it started pinging at this boost and this could not be stopped by altering mixture or timing. The motor and turbos (both stock) are new (just run in about 2000km). Car has Nistune, large side mounts, pod and exhaust, but stock injectors.

I understand this is regarded as a low kw number for a car with this spec and John suggested that it may be the result of the engine being a rebuilt auto (not manual). As I understand it auto motors are less powerful than manual motors due to having different cams. Is this the only difference (other than the turbos). Can anyone else suggest reasons that might cause "unresponsive" pinging at this boost? Can anyone tell me what power (kw) can be expected from a stock auto motor? Is 200kw the limit at ~14psi for this engine?

Lastly happy to hear any other information you feel might be relevant.

My car is an auto to manual conversion and I got 252 rwkw with stock turbos on the dyno day

Serviced the injectors and got a new fuel pump?

Injectors and pump haven't been touched, but car idles and runs very smoothly so I think the injectors are ok. Don't know much about the pump other than it's stock.

Oh so it was your car i could hear pinging from outside. To be honest, give the car a complete checkover including base ignition timing and cam timing to make sure its all spot on. The difference between camshafts is Auto TT are 240 degrees while manual is 248 degrees. Also fill it up with some fresh 98 octane and try again.

    Cam timing
    Ignition timing
    Fuel Pressure
    Fuel Pump

Is what i would be checking

They tried pulling timing out on the day and it didn't make any difference. Cam timing ...... I'm afraid that's beyond my current knowledge. Is this something that needs to be done in a workshop? Is it possible that could be wrong on a newly rebuild motor?

The car had a tank of 98 octane in the morning.

Also remove your CAS and see if the cam still has the locating dowel on it

Is this a serious suggestion......don't play with me I cause I will attempt it

Thats where my bet is. Unless your timing is way off or your fuel is way bad.. then its the fuel delivery.

You have 20-25yr old clogged up injectors and pumps and your trying to get the max outta them.

I would have swapped out new pumps and injectors prior to changing any boost. New filter too.

Yes if it was set incorrectly on reassembly

Same as yours apparently i.e. Nistune, large side mounts, dual pods and exhaust.
(I also regularly use Nulon total fuel system cleaner to keep fuel system unclogged).

Having nistune doesnt mean anything unless the car has been tuned

Yeah just mentioned so that member had a full snap shot of set up. They were trying to tune it while it was on the dyno but that's when it became clear that 200 kw was about max it would produce without pinging. Changing mixture and timing did not help.

I have a manual TT i am getting Nistuned installed and dyno'd tomorrow. I have a similar set up, (Tuned Nistune, Exhaust, Big SMIC's, stock Turbos and POD) i'll let you know what sort of results i get, i am getting a before and after Dyno out of curiosity.

What is your exhaust setup? Timing set correctly with timing light?

How much boost was run? Injector duty? Got any dyno graphs? Fuel pressure ok?

Could Dave get it to run richer on the Dyno? If he could alter mixtures it sounds more like mechanical issue than fuel related

Also what spark plugs do you run? Too hot maybe?
