Well guys it has been an interesting 48 hours since the Zed went missing and I am happy to say it has been reported by someone due to its 'cloudy' windows.

I got the call around 5PM today and I can say a lot of joy came with that call. The person who reported it said the car looked okay outside but quite the opposite from looking into the inside. When your car gets stolen you must consent for it to be investigated by police (finger prints & the usual), they also mention in the clause that you must pay any towing fees for the police to investigate at one of their centers. A cop went on site and saw it was decorated with a fire extinguisher in the cabin to destroy all evidence. He mentioned there is no point sending the car to the in pound and said I am free to pick it up.

I couldn't to it any faster. Rear P plate was ripped off from the number plates but the number plates were still fine. Explored the interior and it was tragic -

It looks like a screw driver was just pushed into the drivers side door lock barrel and forced open.

Ignition barrel hacked and cut off. I couldn't find the barrel itself but I found all the little things that go with the barrel. Everything in the car was gone through but most things left except the coins and casino cash voucher. Rear carpet was all pulled up. These thugs did about 140KM since they stole the thing. I left the car with a full tank of fuel and a quarter was left when I saw it today. I didn't bother starting it but the residents and cop said the bonnet was open but not up when they saw it this morning. All the connectors, sensors and hoses were all still fine but I noticed some oil on one of the timing covers towards the drivers side cam. I guessed they would of gave it a big flogging. Panels and wheels were all still straight and it was steering fine. Wheels did loose a little meat. Front bumper had a heap of bugs on it! A resident said that they recently had their Pintara stolen and taken to near by paddocks and completely trashed.

I have left it where it was for the night but locked the doors and removed the battery / CAS plug. The house its out front said they will keep an eye and I will get it towed home tomorrow.

Painful, I don't think the engine will crank though. Lock up your 300zx's

    hope it works out

Hope it all works out for you mate. I would love to catch some of these low life little pricks, give them a dose of fire extinguisher down their throat and then rip out their hearts, rip their heads off and shit down their throats. In my opinion that is all that is befitting the crime of stealing someone's pride and joy. Get the fire extinguisher chemicals off as soon as you can because it does stain , have seen a few cars with white powder stains from extinguishers.

shit man, I dont know whether thats good or bad news :/ I guess its good you got it back, but those ****ing lowlife pieces of trash sure tried to kill it by the looks of things.

New alarm system with GPS it is for me I think.

Tragic. Let us know if there is a tech day to help clean it up.

That's awful, best of luck with the cleanup. Really hope you can sort things out.

Not sure one of those GPS systems is really going to help. My impression of carjackers is that they take a car, thrash it, and ditch it. Once it's ditched someone's going to find it and it'll likely get traced back to you.
Seems like preventative stuff like alarms are going to be the best route.

That's great news mate! Sort of.....

I really want to know tho, did you have an alarm fitted and/or an immobiliser fitted? Because I have both fitted but if it was that easy to steal your car with them fitted then its kind of useless

Can you still claim with your insurance since the car was stolen and that amount of damage was done to it? You could then buy it back if you really wanted to keep it and fix it all up.

^ That's what I've been pondering. After you've cleaned it up, will insurance cover it considering there's very little tangible damage?

Should he even have to clean it since the mess was made as a direct result of it being stolen, will the insurance company pay to get the interior fully detailed?

He already said that he made a mistake on the insurance doc, it was only third party... No fire and theft?

This only protects him against other people he hits...

Insurance companies are f$@ked unless you pay a mint each year, in which case over time you pay out you car many times over, they will not fix an old car! This is the way they can get rid of old cars on the road... Need to be at least the year 2000+ and still even then you may not get it fixed.....they will just pay you out... Much easier for them!

I've recently been through all this bull!

im pretty sure he said they made a mistake, his paperwork says he has fire and theft (certificate wise).

Really sorry to see mate :( I know the feeling... had my Integra stolen a few years ago and luckily for me they didn't fire extinguisher the interior and left only minor body damage and was quite easy to fix.

From the pics, it looks like they left you a lot of work to clean that up if you decide to do it. When I was at the cop shop with a load of stolen cars, none of them had THAT much powder inside. You only need a thin layer to cover up any prints (and ruin the plastics) but they went that extra mile. ****ing ****s.

You'll have to decide what to do from here, the car will never feel the same again. You start noticing every small flaw and all you can think about is 'the thieves did it' which bugged me a lot.

Oh no :(....this is such a bad outcome, what a bloody mess :(...I guess it is repairable, but bloody hell!

I hate that Australia is so soft in the legal system..well that's how I feel, if they were caught they would probably only been given a slap on the wrist..while the poor owner has to pay for the damages that someone will probably go and do again because of next to no penalties...

    That is

a pain-full picture. Joy riders stole the car I would seem, and there possibly quite close by, the cops wont do anymore than what they have already done, vigilantly action? oh yeah! find the pricks and hammer their fingers flat.
    I jest ........................................like fk.

I wouldn't touch it, give it to insurance to pay you out to be honest, I agree with MikeZ32, almost 100% certain you will find things later on that were bypassed you will get shafted for at your own expense, get a mechanic to fullly look over it and will even side with you a bit to push some more expenses through as the ones crooks would have done (flog the piss out of it and what it will cost you) but cant prove with mechanical damage (even though you can with the tyres etc).

Good luck with it all anyways.

I think you should get the insurance company to clean the car up and get it serviced to the point that it is driveable and in the same condition as before the theft.
Show the insurance company exactly where your car was parked, they will look for fresh oil stains

People who steal cars to spend the night hooning around know what a Skyline is. They gravitate towards them ;)

So AAMI didn't accept the claim. I decided I'd clean up the Z and I purchased an ignition barrel with locks from Ryan. Christmas break couldn't of come at a better time!

I will trade it in, but make sure everything is working correctly and clean before hand just because I couldn't stand another person owning it with any problems. I have been miring a TT for a long time now and I believe it is time to live the dream.

woah, back up - why didn't AAMI accept the claim? Weren't you insured for theft? Is there a reason you don't think it's worth fighting through the financial ombudsman (it's a free service)?
