I've got aftermarket rims and have just rung up a tyre place for prices on Eagle F1 GS-D3's and have been astounded by the difference in price:

    Front - 17 x 8 rim - 225/45R17 - $330 per tyre
    Rear - 17 x 9 rim - 235/45R17 - $265 per tyre

Apparently the 235/45R17 is a more common size these days. So my question is can I run the 235/45R17's on the front as well, or would there be clearance issues?

I run 235/40/18 on the front, with no issues whatsoever. A number of people run 265/35/18 on the front, some have problems, others don't.

I'd be leaning 2wards 235's on the 8" on the front and 255's on the rear :)

    Also

Ring around at that price the Eagle F1's just got outdone by Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001, but all that said all places have quoted me more tread more $$$ so the 17x8 225/45/17 should'nt be more expensive.

    235's are a bit skinny on a 17 x 9, you should have a 255/40 or 265/40 on them.

235/45 is a better fit on the 17 x 8. They were standard fitment on Falcons and Commodores when they had factory 17's, that's why they're cheaper.

    agreed

but a 255 will be pricey, I want those tyres but I have 18", there about $400 each. Perhaps I'll buy two at a time.

The new Semi slicks are called 595RS-R's. A bit harder than comp R's but are DOT approved and you can use them on the road.

The wear rating is 140 wheras Comp R's are around 80

Seems I can get a Sh!t hot price trade price on em.

JP reckons that the extra softness of the real Comp R's is worth around a sec a lap. I can live with that seeing these will heat cycle a lot more times before they go off.

Comp R's are renouned for short life times and apprently are a bit useless after 20 heat cycles

These RS-r'S seem to be a good compromise.

Do a search for a review.

col I run 235/40/17's on my 17x8.5" front wheels (the F1's as well, stick with them, they're great!) with no issues what so ever.
Agree with the others about going a tad wider in the rear though, you'll get the 255's on no problem. I've got 265's on my 9.5" & could easily have gone to 275's.
If your keen on 225's though shoot me a pm, i've got a spare pair. Not goodyears though...

Used these in Tassie for the Targa Tour!

Was very happy with their grip, particularly in the wet. Good grip and control once warm, and good wear considering this.

    How much are they worth?

I need a new pair of back tyres soon running 265/35/18's I think you were running the same? Or might be gettin mixed up with someone else, either way wanna know how much they are goin for :p

(Running Kumho Ecsta SPT's (KU31) at the moment and they are fantastic in the dry and wet)

The SS version is approx $200. The Semi Slick RS-R is around $300. They are excellent value for money.

They are not expensive tyres. I am working on a deal ATM for these. So keep your eyes peeled.

    agreed, i have 255's on 18x9 front and 275's on 18x9.5 rear

also using continental contigrip sport 2, i found them better then the eagle f1 gs d2's and d3's, but then again i always think semetrical tyres are always gonna be better then directional :)
