Alfa Romeo GTV 1998 2.0 TS Manual

Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 Twin Spark Manual.
$2800 NEG

Silver exterior with red leather interior.

Great fun car.

Engine rebuilt by last owner.

All servicing under my and last owner was done at an Alfa Romeo specialist in Perth. All fully logged in service book.

Timing belt replaced just over a year ago as preventative maintenance.

This 1998 car is starting to show it's age cosmetically, but mechanically it has been trouble free for the 1.5 years I've owned it.

This car has been enjoyed as a daily driver, and hasn't skipped a beat.

Only points to note are:

Aircon requires a new condenser and so is not currently functioning.

Sunroof opens via switch, but can only be closed by hand. I just leave it closed.

Everything else works fine.

I am selling as I'm an accidental Alfa enthusiast and so I've upgraded to a 2002 version of the same car. If I could keep both, I would.

Time for someone else to enjoy.

Please note: I will be having the number plates transferred to my new car, and normal plates will be included with this car. UAR916 will not be included in the sale. Proof of legal plate transfer by Department of Transport will be provided.

Car is fully registered.

Rego expires 26th May 2017.

Update.

Clutch was sticking on a test drive but was fine for me afterward.

I suspect sticking actuator rod or what ever it's called. Not loosing any hydraulic fluid and car hadn't been driven all week.

Just being 100% transparent with the sale of this car (as I am with all cars).

I've had that before on my GTV. The rubber boot on the slave cylinder wears out (or goes missing) and dirt binds up the actuator. A good clean brings it to good as new

I miss my GTV

Cheers mate. That's what I suspect also.

I've not done a thing and its driving fine again so I think a week of no use made it sticky.

Will hit it with some CRC anyway.

Worst case if it was slave cylinder failure related, they're external on the phase 1 so cheap to replace so I believe the car is still priced fairly for the age and condition.

Haven't even lubed anything up yet and just did a 2 hour round trip with zero clutch sticking.

She's fine.

Quick update.

Price dropped to $3500

Hazard switch now in place correctly.
Centre console tray re-painted and lined with black felt as it was looking pretty tired.

Today I gave her ANOTHER really good clean inside and out, including using some leather conditioner on all relevant surfaces.

Fresh photos have been uploaded to gumtree and carsales.

Fresh video walk around and cold start here:

Sale fell through. Deposit refunded

Due to finances, the sale did not go through.

Deposit refunded in full.

Car is still up for sale, however I may soon be opting to sell on consignment, or just keep it.

Price back down to $2500 BUT have removed it from Scumtree and Carsales because OMG. That's all I'm saying.

You refunded the deposit? Doesn't that go against what the point of a deposit is?

Let me tell you a story on that one.

Bloke seemed a little dodgy from day 1.

Had ME test drive the car. Never showed me a licence.

On the night he came to pay for and collect the car, he phones me 3 hours late at ~9:30pm said there had been a mixup and he had some of the money in USA $$$

He never actually asked if I'd take the USA $$$

He was about half way to my house.

So I nicely suggested he continue to my place and I would pay him back his deposit so that we are both then without obligation, and he could come back when he had all the money in AUD.

He came at after 10pm. I paid the deposit back. and we both signed a receipt to the effect.

He showed me the envelope consisting of AUD, USD, and a receipt stating the value of the USD, but again, never suggested he pay in USD in the wording he used.

The story was he'd been selling puppies and his father in law had paid him for one in USD. Money he'd got exchanged ready for a holiday coming up in six months time.

Understand, he may have been 100% genuine but personally, I became suspicious and saw my best way out of the situation being to give him his deposit back, and bid him good day. So that is what I did.

He rang again about 2 days later saying he had all the money in AUD but again, now not feeling like I could trust this guy (and I could have been 100% wrong but went with my gut) I told him a local person was interested in the car, and if they didn't buy it I'd keep it, and wished him luck in his car search.

The way I saw it, if he'd not lost anything AND turned out to be dodgy (and he may not have been) he'd be LESS likely to seek some kind of retribution.

I ended up selling the car to a L plater who loved it and had saved her own money to buy her first car.

Her dad was happy with the car on test driving it and the final deal was done to a new happy owner. (for AUD in cash).

I hope that explains why I felt the need to refund a deposit.

Haha Yes it does.

I'm in the process of selling a car & the amount of time wasters is staggering. I just received a $1000 deposit and he has a further two weeks to pay the remainder. I have no intention of giving the deposit back if he doesn't come good

I hear you.

All I got from scumtree was blind lowballers and the above.

When I relisted the car I only went with carsales and found you get less "interest" BUT the interest you do get is genuine.

I felt strongly enough to email Gumtree with my story and suggest that they need a buyer/seller rating system.

My conclusion is this...

On car sales, you get people interested in the car you are selling.

On scumtree you get people looking for a bargain. Nothing else.

I had just as much trouble selling my partners little Mazda 3 on carsales. Have people come and look at it and then offer 30% of what I was asking because they saw one with 350,000K's on it which was cheap... Had a heap of lowballers on the M3. Suprisingly I found putting "no offers" on the ad for the Audi actually worked! No timewasters at all.

It's all too hard.

I've never listed a car for sale. The only cars I've sold have been the Kombi van (massive regret now) and the red zed to Jamie. And I knew both of those peeps.

Because of the tax benefits, I've always just flipped my daily's at the dealership, they're always dead keen to get you into something else, so have always muscled a better trade in price than I'd get selling privately without being taken for a ride on the price of the replacement.

Everything else is filling up a couple of garages
