G'day all. Long time reader and study of the tech section on here hehe

Just joined up after getting my 89 JDM 300zx TT 5sp. What I thought was going to be an easy fix and restore is now turning into a bit more of a project. And learning that nothing is cheap on this car. From what the previous owner was saying it was import here by a farmer years ago and been seating in the shed after he got bored with it.

I few questions I have so far from the people in the know on here. This car was imported over after getting a Trust package in it from what I can tell from the parts in her. So far I have found Trust smic, changed rear Trust mufflers, HKS ECV 2 or 3 boost controller (electronic controller remove when imported so not sure which one), in cab manual Trust boost controller and chipped ECU, which I can't tell who flashed it to find out what was done. I'll try and post some pics and wondering at the moment if anyone knows any details about them and what could have been done to the ECU?

Why would you have both a ECV boost controller and a manual boost controller in the cab??

Up for a new clutch so going to pull the motor out and rebuilt the turbos at the same time. As the next things to check to find out if they are the factory or aftermarket is the turbo's and injectors.

I'm sure I'm going to lose skin and hair with this car but it will be worth it in the end. Would appreciate any help or information given.

    Cheers

I bought a HKS EVC 1 and was told they are near impossible to install, can't remember exactly why though so that doesn't help you. So maybe it's not actually connected?

Thats an odd looking front bar. I remember contacting the selling about this car a few months ago, never went to check it out though. Hopefully your experience with this car is enjoyable haha

Nice goodies. Cooler turned out well with a good polish.

I was told by the importing laws they had to discontent the boost control for NSW Rego. So I'm hoping after I get ACT Rego to restore it back to its pre-imported spec's. The EVC control box which seats inside the cab is gone but they left the valve box still hooked up. Go figure haha. From doing a goggle image search it looks like it's a 3 or 4 valve box. The HKS Web site has no support information on there :(

Enjoyable will be one word for it lol

The young bloke who sold me the car was trying to say it was the R or GTR version or something like that, but I had never heard of any Z32 like that before so just put it down to a sales pitch lol. It don't even have the electronic suspension on it lol

I have seen a few of the same bar's but they have all been on jap race or dirt cars. The bar was all cracked up from when it was taken off the tow truck and I have fiberglassed most of it back up again.

There was a type r, but that was only for the last of the zeds, I don't think here are any in aus. Jono's is a type S.

Electronic suspension was for the us market only.

Well mine is a JDM 2+0 89 import with the little green sticker in the engine bay lol So a lot of the Aus and USA data information isn't 100% right with my car lol

Being the first of run of the Z32 I didn't expect it to have all the flash stuff like the later model Z32s

You might know this being a local. Would Rego have any issues about me going over the pits with 18 inch rims on? Been trying to hunt down a set of staggered 17 inch but can't find a set that I like the look of.

Depends on where you go. Don't take it to Dickson. Its harder these days to get a roady than it was a few years ago.

If you need a set of stockies to get you over let me know.

Cheers mate. A far way off getting the car on the road yet but I have been told that I have to take it over Dickson as the car is unregistered and from NSW.

I thought if I can buy the set of staggered 17's that I liked then I would be fine. Pretty sure that they would pin me with staggered 18's after seeing that sticker. The front spring have been lowered but I'm pretty sure that it's just in legal specs tho but I'm going to leave it as is so they have something to pick on lol

Unless they changed the laws. Take it to any inspection station

All imports have to go through Dickson as of the beginning of this year apparently. I took mine to premier automotive in Mitchell after that law had been passed and they still gave me a roadworthy for my '91 JDM 2+0

Thanks all for that info, with timing and the cash flow I might have it all ready in a few months I'm hoping so I might take it to them and see what they say.

Just found this thread from your questions on radiators etc. in the tech section, I'd be happy to help you look over the car at some point and help you figure a few things out. Between me and Madcow we should be able to figure out most of what you need since we've both just done engine pulls.

I would recommend doing some tests on your engine like compression and maybe a leakdown test before setting up your budget
