Rad overflow tanks

These are my new custom designed hand made ally radiator overflow tanks, specially designed purely for the Z32 300ZX.

Made from marine grade ally sheet they weigh just 500 grams - the same as the stock plastic tank.

They hold up to 1.5L of overflow water - more than enough for a healthy Zed :)

Best of all they relocate the tank to beside the battery, this moves the weight rearwards of the front axle and also removes the restriction from the airflow through the LHS intercooler.

Mounting the tank above the radiator cap also ensures overflow water is returned to the coolant system with no air bubbles (often the case with the older rubber hose)

I have found it far easier to check the coolant level with the nice generous sized cap for easy removal & visual inspection of the coolant level rather than the pesky Nissan dip stick conglomeration.

TIG welded and pressure tested to ensure no leaks, mounting tabs wont be fitted unless requested as the tank is a snug fit beside the standard size battery.

Tanks are stocked here in NZ so will need to be shipped to Aus at customers expense.

    PRICE: $120

I make these myself so if there are non in stock they can be made within one/two days, customisation of tanks available cost may vary depending on what you want done :)

Am interested to see one installed too. Looks like a good replacement for the stock plastic one.

    Hi guys
The tanks are TIG welded & below is a photo of the prototype fitted to my car.
I have fitted mounting tabs to my one but they really don't need them as the tanks sit nice and snug in place, maybe just a little rubber tape or similar to ensure they don't rattle - or else ask for tabs to be fitted.

You will notice in the photo I changed from the cap style opening to a bung style, the bung is a nicer size & look for the same size opening, I can reduce these to smaller if you prefer. (current size opening 32mm)

    I'll take one..

does this have an overflow on the overflow tank? :)

There is a small hole drilled in the side of the cap for ventilation and in the event the tank becomes to full it will vent out from there.
If desired I can add a tube at the top so an overflow hose can be fitted to direct excess water elsewhere, I would fit this directly above the current inlet/outlet tube.
I don't see it being an issue - unless you blow a head gasket or seriously overheat the poor engine, then you have bigger things to worry about aye :)

Send me a PM & we can go from there mate
    Thanks :)

Have got two of these sitting on the shelf ready to go & have a few others partially made.
shipping to Australia worst case is via Fedex at $50 NZ.
NZ post will be cheaper but I can't get a price from the site just at the moment.

So max cost delivered would be ~ $145 AUS

My original cost in first post was calculated wrong actual unit cost is $110 + shipping, shipping will be cheaper if two or three are sent at the same time I think.

Could I be a PITA and get one with a radiator cap and a larger pipe thing? I want to use it as a header tank.

I'm not too fussed if it's all a bit too hard, I think PWR make them...

Not a problem, I know the rad cap fittings are expensive though so the price would go up by about $60 NZ ($46 Aus)
Happy to make it however you like though - what size pipe? mounts required?
If you have moved the battery I can increase the width for more volume etc.

I'll have a look and a measure up when I get a chance. Battery will remain in the standard position for now.

that looks like it'd block the power cables that some route through there from near the ECU to the battery?

About 10mm clearance between the back of the tank and the firewall so depends what cables you run through there.

I will take one. I have a large amp power cable that runs in from the quater panel hole beside the battery, that may make it a little tight for installation.

If you can provide a good photo of where the cable is & what size etc I will be able to modify the design of your tank to allow for the cable :)
You may loose a tiny bit of volume in the tank depending on the cable but nothing significant.
I will send you a PM & we will go from there.

    Thanks
    Glenn.

Mine arrived this morning and is now installed. What fastener did you use for the tab near the cap? There is no thread on mine in that position.

I used a Honda (don't shoot me please!) quad bike guard clip, they are just a plastic push in type clip. I actually forgot to put one in there - I can post one if you like?

Any plastic panel clip type thing will do the trick - you might find a Nissan one :)
Feel free to make comments good or bad so I know if I need to improve on them.
    thanks
    Glenn.

Would it cost any more to have the mounting tabs? I'd prefer mine mounted. I think if cops over here were to look over the car, they'd ask why it's "loose in the engine bay".

My tanks pretty well rooted so I'm interested. :D
Will it be fitted with a female thread like in the first pic, or male thread in the demo pic? I'd prefer male thread if possible with that style of cap.
I'd also like a top barb on mine so I can direct possible overflow straight to the ground rather all over the battery platform.

How much to anodise them? Hmmm, Red or Blue...maybe Black! :p:p:p
