Hey guys, this is my thread for my complete re-build. This will not be a short topic. It will probably take me 2 or 3 years to get anywhere near what I want, but thats life, right?

Lets start with the basics: My car is a 1990 NA J-spec (Manual). Her name is Shene (Shen-ay), which also happens to be my girlfriends name. Its not a rude joke, its actually quite the opposite. I named it after her so I can be with her even when im not...shuddup :D

    This is her now: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=22471&id=100001368948388&l=cdaf258147

Her future, however, is quite different to this. These are my big plans:

    > Turbo Conversion: Keeping the NA motor, and slapping on some turbos. Stock turbos to begin with, then some maybe one day down the track some real serious firepower.
    > Body Kit: Gonna modify a veilside bodykit to be completely custom and original.
    > Scissor doors: Because they are fricking awesome, k?
    > Stereo: Lets face it...it needs an overhaul.
    > Interior Trim: Goodbye tweed, Hello bright red faux leather. Gonna do the door trim, the dash, back seat, targa sides and maybe even the pillars. Ooh, and my sub box.
    > Interface: Going for a completely custom dash, same setup, but ALL gauges replaced. Also gonna chuck some gauges on the pillar.
    > Seats: Racing...dur...
    > Paint: Fun stuff that. Trying to go to a lighter metallic red minus the massive cost. Gonna have full length tribal flame decals down the side in contrasting shades of red and orange, with black outlines.
    > Nose Panel: Vented, naturally.
    > Lighting: Red neons inside, wired to the lights. Red undercars and grill lights outside.
    > Engine: Heres the real fun. Gonna go turbo, lightened everything, performance brakes, a new look for the engine and twin dual exhaust.
    > Tires/Wheels: Something good.
    > Tail Lights: Close to stock, but smoked and custom.

If you can offer any parts, advice or help let me know. As I do each thing i will update this thread, and hopefully one day my car will be REBORN.

(Fingers crossed) Please do this first... it might inspire other veilside-kit owners to drastically change theirs :D

I took the massive lip off my CII front bar last week. I need new guards coz it was too heavy and wasnt attached properly resulting in minor tearing :/

No futher body work will be done while Im living in the sticks tho, it'll just get chipped.

Let me know who you get to do the scissor door conversion. That's schedualed for a couple years when the respray and door shaving will be taking place on mine :)

After reading the first paragraph i had to look at your profile and see your age hehe. If you break up with her (and you have to assume its a possibility) will the name remain the same?

and a quote from chrispy to me. "your too into your feelings"

    anyways..

lots of ambitious tasks there, and a few are illegal. Also..prepare to cop some flak (even if people dont say it they will think it) e.g tribal flame decals, neons, scissor doors and veilside. And (dont quote me) but im pretty sure you cant just throw turbos on an NA...well im very sure.

Youl also find that that list will drastically change due to being persuaded/legalities/cost and other stuff so dont get your heart set on anything lol.

interested to see how this evolves,
    matt.

sorry mate, but your wrong... been done and on there for a while, runs fine and better acceleration than a stock TT...

if ya need any help jordz let me know... done a lot of your list myself over the past years ...

I thought to boost an N/A car you need to have it engineered, upgrade your drivetrain, internals, brakes and cooling system to be legal. It also helps to stop your components from failing due to the increased prussre and allows for greater boost. Its a big task, which is why I was considering supercharging mine eventually I can fit something in there. Less plumbing and cooling required.

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

That's uh... an interesting profile pic you've got there...

nope none of that needs to be done, tho a tt radiator is recomended, if your gonna do internals then your not really doing a normal swap, thats a rebuild...
my swap took about 6 hours max

wow everyone seems to think they know about this stuff but has no real idea about doing it or ever done it...

im not saying you cant put one on there, Im just saying to be complient (atleast in NSW) I thought you had to upgrade certain components and have it enigineered like you would any other major mod.

You'll cop some flak over that idea but it's been done recently by a man who knows what he's doing.

Here's a link to the thread on this Forum, for some technical details and a spirited discussion -

Good luck with it all Jordz, I hope it goes well for you. :)

Just to respond to everyone: yes, the nem will stay tthe same. I will be proposing to my partner soon actually :D and no shes not pregnant lol. Yeh, I know its a fair bit more work than just bolting on turbos. And of course I will cop flak for some of the changes. Everyone has different tastes. And yes, just ignore my display pic :D

Tjhanks for all the advice. Guys, already helping me out.

As far as I know, when turboing an NA you just need to upgrade your brakes (calipers and rotors) to the TT brakes or equivalent. This goes for any car, if you chuck a different, more powerful motor in it then your supposed to install the bigger brakes that would go with that motor, adding turbos to the NA in view of the requirements basically means your car becomes a TT in original form and it should have the original TT brakes.

Seeing you'll be able to accelerate much faster, you need to be able to brake much faster ;)

That and obviously getting it engineered (which then may introduce other requirements such as a cooling system upgrade, etc) if you are trying to follow the legal path...if not then do whatever you want to, just expect to get a defect at some stage, or a blown engine if you don't know what you are doing (so speak to Awegazm)...personally I'd do a brake upgrade for my own and the car's safety...even without the turbos

    Cheers,

    Craig

ditch the idea of slapping on some turbos, the guy in the thread who did them to his car had all the parts lying around and some spare time, he also knows his stuff, you dont.

buy a tt motor and swap it in, will be faster and probably cost the same once you buy all the parts and pay for labour for a mech to do the swap + then you can sell the N/a and get some money back, you also said you wanna get bigger turbos later on, so whats the point of keeping an n/a motor your gonna have to crack open later on anyway?

    ditch the neons

ditch the red leather, get black instead.

ditch the failside, go 2k front with 2k tails and kaminari rear/sides

Veilside CI rear bar looks alright. Front bar is a whole other story...

But lay off the guy, if he likes the veilside kit let him run with it. No point everyone having the same exact car, it'd wreck the Garage section :/

i think it already has, either you get so swayed by the forum and end up not getting vs cos of everyone else or your oblivious, like it and get it.

i myself like a little bit of rice but not much, i want something unique..which im doing. :zlove::zlove::zlove:

Everyone who wants to be "completely custom and original" picks veilside - trust me veilside and original do not go hand in hand. If you want unique go for something widebody and have some custom additions here and there. Not exactly my cup of tea but thats sure as hell better than veilside.

If you're actually after "custom and original" have a look at OZ-300's zed - thats the best example of a custom zed I've seen, obviously do not copy that design as that just ruins the whole idea but it could give youa generic idea of how it can be done.

If you genuinely love veilside:vomit: - then I will ask you this, are you sure you want your car (named after your girlfriend) to look like this. Just food for thought:cool:
