Pending cost, which would be your preferred gearbox?

On the money there. Eric used the z32 gearbox on his last v8 swap on th covette engine.

I feel you would have a much larger market it if fit the factory 5 speed.

The biggest issue with the T56 that I found when researching for the conversion is the size of the bellhousing. The diameter of the t56 bellhousing flywheel is significantly larger than the TT's of 380mm at the engine. This is why many of the conversions using the T56 I have seen required cutting of the firewall/tunnel. I had looked at possibly using an XR6 box (also t56) with and adapter plate but the bell housing was again too big.

Only way that I could see it working would be to have a custom bellhousing made for the t56 that would fit withing the same dimensions of the Zed box and using a smaller diameter flywheel and clutch. If you machined the lsx flywheel down to fit a TT ring gear, drill it for a zed clutch pressure plate and fit a disk with a center spline for the t56. It would work but the RnD for it would be expensive.

On top of that you have to also consider that the t56 does not have a speed sensor on it. You will have to get a device that will interpret maybe wheel speed and convert it into speed pulses needed for the TT cluster.

Quite easy to do. Doesn't answer the other problems though.

Crankshaft centreline of the LS is too high when fitted to a z32, means the 56 also need the tunnel raised to fit it with out a stupid crazy driveline angle. If you want to keep the hvac, a 56 will not work without at least 40mm of spacer on the engine crossmember. Even then it is still a very bulky box require lots of clearance. SFI approved flywheel housing are available in much smaller diameter than stock LS to 56 configuration. Keep the z box.

Hopefully soon. Got a couple of big projects to complete for other customers before I can get cracking on this. Good news is the engine and T56 is there ready to slot in along with the a new sump, balancer and LS2 Water Pump.

Is there *any* other bits besides your kit plus a donor engine, computer and loom, that would be needed for the conversion? Radiator hoses? Radiator shrouds? Thermo fans? Any "extra" exhaust work? Custom extractors? Throttle cables/mounts? Tacho mods? ??? ??? ???

And to go off on a wild tangent here - what would be the chances of still having clearance for fitment of a couple of turbos? :D

I am all for a COMPLETE conversion kit that I can fit myself - being a mechanic. But then again, the motivation level may not be high, so as crazy as it may sound, I might be interested in the drive in/out option.

My kit will be complete. All you need is an engine and gear box.

Forget Forced Induction mate. According to NCOP LA1 the original vehicle mass X 5 is the cc size permitted or X3 with forced induction.

    This means a 2+2 TT weighing in at 1634KG X5 = 8170cc Naturally Aspirated or 1634KG X3 = 4902cc with forced induction.

Could you source the engines that might make it a bit easier for interstate people?

  13. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

Interstaters would be best off buying local and avoiding having to ship a motor...

That is both awesome, and not so awesome.

Awesome because the kit is complete. Would save so much stuffing around, research, failures, swearing and skinned knuckles etc.

Not so awesome because of the no go to the turbo side of things. Is that NCOP LA1 guideline an Australia Wide (I assume it is) thing or just QLD?

That is valid if you want a stock enigne. I can provide an engine especially if you want a drive in/drive out service complete with Mod Plate, and then if you want a built engine I can do that and freight it to you as well.

Yep, some hot LS engines will be coming out of my shop along side the TT's :br:

LOJ does not do a complete kit Simo. Mounts maybe the same but there is a lot more to it like the cooling system, induction plumbing, exhaust headers, wiring, etc.

As far as I am aware no one does a complete RHD LS to Z32 swap kit.

Would be great if a forum member had a conversion kit made.

Having said that - there are LS conversion's that are available that are a bolt on kit and do not require customisation.

You only need to have it fitted - for it to be drive in - drive out

    Here is one example:

Yeah i like the idea of supporting local business and a drive in drive out option seems like the best for someone who is as motivated as myself. lol!
