Jamie at this point will almost certainly be a one off but who knows down the track if I get some free time, plus not confident enough in my fibreglassing skills to commit to that sort of thing this early in the journey.

Dean happy to offer help where I can though as mentioned my fibreglass skills are somewhat 'basic' at the moment, but by all means shot me a pm just in case.

Fingers crossed I can finish off one side & get it roughly balanced in this weekend, unless of course we get some nice melbourne style torrential rain, my garage leaks...

    cheers, Tim

well been a good day in the car hole, got nothing done yesterday but good progress has been made. Plan today was to get the design sorted on one side of the wing, then will balance it across to other side.

First up started adding the fillet to the upper surface, this transitions from the leading edge into the main surface. Roughed in using a half round stanley surform.

Now cleaned up, have put the tapes across the surface as it makes it easier to check the section & ensure its working.

Have taped out where I want the leading edge chamfer to come too
    [IMG]

    Chamfer area clayed up
    [IMG]

    Hey presto, chamfer done!

Modelling the edge of the wing, mostly cleaned up now.

Taping up all the lines & checking they work from all angles
    [IMG]

    close up
    [IMG]

Again checking lines & sections, important so that highlights flow correctly on finished product
    [IMG]

Profile view of spoiler, this will be going with a twinz bumper which is shorter so should tie in nicely.

So thats it, about half done. Started balancing the upper surface across, just need to finish that & do the edge on the other side. Then chuck radius's on everything & bob's your wing. Hopefully get a night off during the week otherwise will continue next weekend. Need to get the mould done pronto as I cant drive the zed while this is going on.

    cheers, Tim

    you are an artiste !

All the lines look great and fit perfect with the car .

Have thought of making the lip a little longer or is this how you imagined it ?

Keep up the good work :zlove:

kakaboy this is pretty much how I sketched it out, wanted it just a little bigger than the subtle winfactory one. Thats the beauty of clay though, if I decide to give it a try I can have it all changed in no time.
Still no plans to produce them plantrobbi but will let you know if that changes!

Spent about an hour on it this arvo before it got dark & just about have the top surface all balanced over, am also changing the edge slightly as wasn't entirely happy with the transition around the corner. Was just a bit too round when seen in this view.

Hoping to spend all day tomorrow on it so hopefully have some good photos to add.

Also this week had some mirrors arrive, something a bit different, they're Abflug aero mirrors. Bit rough condition wise but once they've had a tidy up I'll get some photos of them fitted up. Same as in this photo:

    So exterior transformation will be:
front bar - 2k spec (already fitted)
    skirts - 2k spec
rear bar - twinz type 2
    wing - custom
    mirrors - abflug

Thanks again for the complements guys!
    cheers, Tim

So what's the deal with making the other side match? Do you just do it visually very carefully or is there some technique to it?

Also, is it purely aesthetic or are you aiming for a bit of a kammback effect?

yeah, thats definately the tricky bit Pete! At work its easy, use the cloud scanner which gives you a 3d surface scan which you can then mirror & mill the other side to match.
D.I.Y. in your garage with melbourne weather, its slightly more difficult!

Basically you use a profile gauge like this, mines the same but yellow.

Will post a photo later as I've only just stopped for lunch but basically I've marked out every 20mm in a horizontal line along the lower edge of the side of the hatch. I then use the profile gauge to transfer each vertical section along that line. Then you clean the surface up to match all the sections & thus balance the surface. Takes bloody ages to get it bang on, making good progress though.

    & purely an aesthetic exercise.

    cheers, Tim

Makes sense, thanks, I'll look forward to process pictures.

    Good work too.

  12. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

That's a solid list my man. Are you going Ionic Dynamics for the skirts?

OEM mate, urethane all the way :D

Spoilers the last piece of the puzzle, everything else is half preped in the garage. Got about 70% there with all the prep work then got bored of sanding & decided to make a spoiler. Speaking of which...

    Update time!

What a long, cold day in the garage that was but it got results. Spoiler is balanced :D

First needed to finish balancing the upper surface which I got stuck into during the week.

Then it was time for the tricky bit, balancing the side. Upper surface was easier to do as a lot more uniform, just needs a few sections transfered from side to side, spaced well apart, then you can model the the rest in. Edge was heaps more involved.

So here's the edge all clayed up, have my highly technical green painters tape with sections marked in 20mm increments. Have the same on other side obviously.

Here I'm using a profile gauge to transfer the section on the other side of the wing to its location on the drivers side. So check against gauge, add/remove clay to suit.

    Repeat many, many times...

    Surface all roughed in
    [IMG]

    & all cleaned up
    [IMG]

Now just a few to show the overall spoiler.

Still need to clean the lower edge on the sides but forgot the tool I need, then have to put radius's on everything & run a groove around the perimeter of the black out. Oh & make sure the flush mount brake light will fit.

    Then its mould time.

    Now its beer time.

    cheers, Tim

Like in this photo, also check out articdragon192's build thread as he has them on his zed.

Other than nissan not too sure where you can buy oem, I got mine second hand off yahoo auctions. Be ready for a price shock though, I had to source one end cap that was missing from my skirts. Its just a little 'L' shaped peice that goes in the end of the skirt & secures to the wheel arch. It cost $180.

Can get the part numbers if people are keen though.

Im keen :) I was after urethane side skirts and the 2k skirts would go nice with my 2k front bar :) Did they make them in 2+0? Or were all the later model zeds all 2+2?

Did they have a 2k rear bar or were they all always the same?

Oem skirts only available in 2+2, can get fibreglass knockoffs for 2 seaters but not sure on quality, etc.
If you really want 2 seater skirts in urethane then look at the stillen ones, go really nice with the 2k front too.

    Rear bars never changed.
