Any idea what coilovers and arms you'll go with? Will look so much better with a drop :)

Have you thought of removing the pin stripe that's on the doors?

If I buy new I'll probably go for HSD but if I go second hand then I'll just take what I can get. Not sure what arms Im going with yet, I don't have much confidence in the majority of FUCAS out at the moment. I've got a "to do" list for the zed and removing the pin stripes is one of many tasks I have to complete within three weeks.

After all the hard work and annoying dramas I've had I finally made it to the track for some drifting.

All the effort I put into making the car as light as possible paid off. Considering it still has the standard springs and shocks that are all but worn out and, the adjustable front swaybar being the only suspension mod, the car handled really well and was very smooth and controllable while sliding. It felt really nimble and by the end of the night I was lining up witches hats that had been knocked out into the track and using them as clipping points. Handbrake entrys are a breeze but direction changes are a little savage, maybe that's just lack of experience or maybe coilovers will help. I ran out of lock a lot of times so the next mod is to install my GK-Tech rack spacers and buy some adjustable tierod ends. Oh yeah, and a drift button for the handbrake.
The car ran great all night staying nice and cool and running perfect. The only dramas I had was with stalling while spinning out sometimes because the iacv has packed it in and, because I was dirfting on the wet skidpan a couple of grommets in the floor had popped out and there were a few holes I had forgot to seal which resulted in puddles in the spare wheel well and the front floor pan.
This is the morning after. I stripped it out and let it all dry in the sun..

I'm already keen to get out again, can't wait :br:

Nice work. A set of adjustable coilovers will defiantly help with control (body roll) & also help it look the part. Dump it on its nuts :p

    I second Simon's latter statement.

Coilovers and a decent lowering are on the cards soon hopefully. I can't wait to see how it handles with some real suspension.

Big things have been happening and lots of work has been done. The plan has been to put the car back on the road and, after a few changes, it is almost there. It has all but passed the blue slip inspection but I just had to change the bonnet to a stock one. I bought a white one from John at UAS and also a working IACV and regulator which means my car now idles happily under 1000rpm.

I ended up vinyl wrapping it gloss black for now. I'll eventually get this and the front fenders all resprayed blue.

I bought a set of JIC Majic coilovers to fit after it gets rego'd.

I've done lots of annoying little repairs and odd jobs to make it more "street legal". The entire interior is back in, minus the modcons of course, standard center nose panel is back on, drift stickers have been removed from the windows, painted the Dzus clips in the front bar gloss black and am replacing the stupid cannons for much quieter mufflers with perhaps some smallish blast pipes and new cats. All in an effort to fly under the radar while on the road. The cannons are honestly a real pain to live with if you're daily driving with no sound deadener, the drone is unbearable.
I also bought two more 17x9 +15 Zenkai rims with 235 45s to complete the set.
All in all I really like the look of the car now that it is toned down a bit. After it's registered and the coilys go in I'll roll the guards and lower it, then go sliding to test out the new setup :D

    Zed is registered again!! :D
Took it out for a spin today just to see how it goes and if it was all working. Everything worked great, stayed cool and put a big smile on my face.
Good to be back enjoying my car again.

We should set up an afternoon to shred some tread :br: I have a full set of spare wheels with tyres on them and I'll be buggered if I can think of a better way to get the tyres off the rims then some skids on a "private road"

Hell yeah i'm keen, i'm going away on holiday this week for 5 days so after that it's tyre smashing time. I went for a spin over the mountain to Kangaroo Valley today, the car handles awesome now. Just needs better quality tyres.

Went drifting again last night. The car feels more stable with the coilovers in but other factors made the night not so enjoyable. I drove the zed to the track this time instead of towing it which meant the car was a lot heavier than last because I had 3/4 of a tank of fuel when I rocked up compared to 1/4 previously, plus I put the spare wheel and tools in the boot just in case.
I ran with the new 9 inch rims all round and the car developed a wicked understeer problem. Last time I could just flick the car into the corner and it would kick out sideways and hold, this time it would just plow and bounce forward. Even handbrake entrys were a mission resulting in more spins and understeer than actual controlled drifts.
It leaked heaps of water again.
The engine was feeling really underpowered and sluggish.
I was very annoyed so left early before I broke something in anger.
But, in light of all this drift mayhem the 2.5 hr drive each way was great!
Sun was shining, heaps of cool imports and muscle cars were out, especially on Heathcote rd. The car was noisy as hell but so much fun to drive out on the open road. I had a run with an R34 GTR that had TOMEI on the plates and to my complete surprise I kept up with him. So in conclusion I've figured out that my car loves the sunshine but hates the cold nights on the wet skidpan. Time for some camber and toe adjustments and hit the dry track, next time I'll strip the car out and tow it up.

Car has been off the road for a bit over a month so I can fix a few issues. A couple of the injectors were leaking so I bought a set of cleaned and tested ones and a set of new O-rings.
I also got another iacv and air regulator along with new hoses to try and fix my idle issues.

While it was apart I decided to clean it up and re-paint everything. I'm tired of polishing alloy so it's time to paint

    painted the coil pack brackets

    all four valve covers

    balance pipe, iacv and reg

    overflow bottle

    throttles

    and the plenum

everything was prepped, painted in gloss black or metallic silver then cleared. I also painted the turbo outlet pipes and their brackets in gloss black.

looks great and its a pity to connect all the plugs and wires again and mess it up. I still have to neaten it up and bolt on the engine cover.

I also replaced a faulty coolant temp sensor and now the car starts and runs great, nice and smooooth

That paint looks great on the smooth plenum.

Thanks fellas I'm really happy with how it turned out. Years ago I originally polished the plenum and spent hours and hours smoothing it out and filing down all the un used bolt bosses, this made it so much easier to paint. I still have to paint the Turbosmart fuel reg and thermostat housing.

After much thought I decided to sell my zed. A young guy bought it and will hopefully keep improving the beast. I've had many fun times, been in many races, been really sideways, made a few good mates and had lots of skinned knuckles. I'm out of the zed game for good now, unfortunately these days the scene just isn't what it used to be. Next year I'll look into getting some V8 muscle car power and stick to drag racing and Powercruise type events. Cheers guys it's been real :br:
