I was wondering If my rear centre panel was an Altia indiglo one so I went searching....

The 300zx logo IS maroon and I can see a wire going from the black box through to the other side of the panel.

Could I actually have one of these beauties.

    Got a small issue though.

That little black box buzzes when I turn on the headlights.
    Reason?

Any guides on removing and opening up the rear panel?

I think the best indicators are that the entire text in illuminated and not the outline like a DIY job. The only colour it came in was green. So i assume it doesnt work?

And i think OZX 320 is the local resident indiglow expert, hes picked up a few and knows a fair bit. Just wait for him to chime in :)

With pics attached again...maybe a mod can make this a FAQ?

Here's a bit of a FAQ about the Altia Indiglo parts available for the 300zx!
The Indiglo parts on the 300zx were made by a Nissan sub-division company called Altia. In the late 1990's Altia separated from Nissan.

The 3 factory indiglo parts made for the 300zx are:

    - Rear Centre Panel
    - Door Sills (otherwise known as Kick Panels)
    - Rear Quarter Window Sill

    1/ Rear centre panel
Here is a normal rear centre panel:

Here is an indiglo rear centre panel:

You can tell a panel is an indiglo one by:
    a) the indiglo rear centre panel is maroon on the inside of the 300zx logo (see above)
    b) the indiglo panel only came in green (this is not to say that all green panels are genuine Altia / Nissan panels)
    c) The whole of the 300zx logo illuminates. This is a genuine panel:

This is not (because it is red, and because only the outline is illuminated):

    d) The genuine panels came with a wiring loom that connect in to the black box that controls the rear lights (located inside the right rear quarter panel boot trim):

Just as a FYI, here is a picture of the inside of a genuine panel:

Genuine illuminated rear centre panels are the least rare of the illuminated products, but are still rare. As of early 2008 they are listed at AUD$1300, but cannot be purchased new any more.
The standard rear centre panel can be converted to illuminate. There are tech articles in the tech section on how to do this. It is a messy fiddly job, but the end result can definately be worth it.

    2/ Door Sills

Genuine illuminated door sills are less common than the rear centre panels. The standard sills are plastic, while the indiglo ones are aluminium, but retain a very similar shape:

There are now some good aftermarket sills available. These can differentiated by their use of steel rather than aluminium.

    3/ Rear Quarter Window Sill

The rarest of all the Altia indiglo parts is the rear quarter window sill:

    *Sell it

  6. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

Yeah, it's a bit of a wank imo

They're a nice OEM thing to have, but not a $1300 buying price. More members are finding that they have 1 in their vehicle, as to whether or not they can be made to operate..........
The Power Supply should make a low pitched sound when functioning properly. Buzzing is indicating a failed EL strip or faulty connection within the transformer. Try giving the transformer a squeeze at different angles with it all plugged in, or gently move the tails that disappear into the centre panel

    Resources resources....

Cannot find anywhere locally that sells the right kind of EL stripping.
Anyone know where I can find the right info?

Size of strip? online source to get the strips?

Pulled off centre panel and had a looksie.
    Can't get the panel apart.

The "Step 7 Sit it on the oven door at 400 degrees" is too much for me.
Anyone know any members that'd be up to fixing it up for me, for a reasonable sum.

I've checked all connections and their fine. It's deffinetly the EL strip itself thats failed.

    Sigh.

Just ordered a green El Panel.
Same place the GB was gettin 'em from.

    Zed's require baking skills now?

Guess I'll grow some balls and try do it myself.
