What an awesome day! some people might have not liked the idea of rain at the drifts, but i loved it and it was worth getting saturated and being freezing!! there were parts of body kits flying everywhere!! the only downside was the dirt in the air from the little buggy track next door stuck to you and formed a little layer of mud all over.... but still worth it!

here's a few of my amateur pics... someone else who's better at telling stories can put up the commentry of the actual battles :D

I think the DriftZ was probably one of the only cars that didn't lose any body parts! what a beautiful Zed.... and i'm lovin the colour! :zlove:

Go DriftZ! 4th place is still great. Wouldn't be many other turbo'd V8's out there drifting i bet! Rain would have made it interesting to watch too!

and LOL at the Jesus drift car. Surprised he didn't win with that unfair sponsorship advantage. :D

That is Nathan Weisell in the "Jesus" car and I would like to thank him personally. He wished Dan and the car good luck, and being sponsored by "Jesus" I think he must have blessed us, and devine intervention (or mechanical failures) helped us out a lot !!! :D

We have found a couple of the problems that bugged us on the day. There was no time between races to find the problems.

A spark plug lead with a heatshield over it, touched the manifold and burnt out, so it was only running on 7 cylinders.

The screws inside the waste gate loosened which caused it to jam open intermittently, and we lost boost.

Still trying to find the over heating problem.

This was also the first time Dan has done any drifting in the car for 12 months, with lots and lots of changes. It is also the first time he has used semi comp tyres, and we just had to guess on the suspension setup. We only had 6 of these rear tyres, so we couldn't even afford to practise on them until he got his eye in.

The smaller diameter and grippier tyres meant that he had to change from 3rd to 4th mid corner which isn't ideal, especially while trying to steer, etc. We will have to work out a way of changing the gearing so he stays in 4th

I feel sorry for Eugene as he and his car were on fire and he qualified 2nd, so he would have been very tough to beat on the day. Apparently a cam shaft broke on him.

4th place in a National Drifting Competition is a fantastic result for us, and someone mentioned to me that, no one else in the world has managed that in a 300zx.

Thanks for everyone that helped, supported and watched the event.

    Cheers
    Greg

Was an incredible day! :) As always trackside!

It was really good to catch up with everyone that was there and to sit there in the pits smelling the tyres and fuel all day! Perfect Sunday in my opinion! :)

Dan did incredibly well on the track considering the circumstances and the fact that the rain came out to play!
As did all of the other drivers... real show of talent out there!

I have something like 75 pics from the day, but they are all on my facebook page, and I cant really choose which ones to put up. LOL!
Add me if you wanna have a look :) Cindy Miller

Overall a wonderful day in the sun!

Looking forward to the next event on the track! :)

    Top 4!!!Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

It was an absolutely awesome day! I'm so glad I didn't miss it. I've never been to the drift before, but I'm hooked and will definitely go again... The company was awesome, too. Who'd complain about spending most of the day with two of the Forum's loveliest ladies - Caz and Brissie Beauty... It's just a shame that Zedmd, Zzz and I missed running into Haylz and crew... :(

Was great watching the drift, looking at all of the S 'n' S cars (and being one of 'em :D), hanging with Forum friends, watching the drift, hanging in the Pits with the DriftZ, watching the drift, chatting with the very talented drivers, oh, and of course, watching the drift!

Can't wait to do it again...

    Lil' Baz..... :zlove:

cool pics... i actually didn't even check out the Show n Shine. i went straight for the far side of the track. heaps of awesome action there, and heaps of awesome people. we took refuge in someone's marquee when it started raining without about 30 other people! didn't actually help too much - it was that stupid sideways rain.... it only helped me cos i was in the middle! mind you, too many men in singlets and sweaty arm pits for my liking..

    anyway... moving on...!!

would have been great to catch up with some Zedders, oh well... we'll arrange to meet up at the next one then :D:zlove::D

Wow, What a massive weekend, I'm still stoked!

Sureflo Exhaust put together a great car this weekend, that almost made the distance, 4th is an amesome result and it's great to have had some good luck for once.

Thanks must go to the car crew for the weekend, Team Owner Greg Stevenson was even in there making sure evereything ran smoothly, fueling, tyre changes, cleaning things, car fluids, and camera's, jack of all trades on the weekend! Russ was doing everything, even though he is only medically allowed to lift 10kg's he kept doing more and will have quite substaintial pain now for the week or so, thanks mate. James came down to get a taste of the drift competition and was invaluable in his assistance, having a fellow driver in the pit crew I highly recomend. Caz has a sore back, but did little jobs and kept us all fed and watered. Kirk took pictures early, but couldn't stay out of the pits once we made the Top 4! Thanks to Steve for your help on Saturday, it was a shame you didn't make it on the Sunday, but I guess the chief won that "chat" :)

We can't race without our Sponsors either, so thank you very much to everyone who has stuck with us through all the bad luck, Sureflo Exhaust, Caz Racing, Speedshot's, Textralia, and Sam's Performance.

Also a big thanks to those that joined us this year, Federal Tyres (Awesome hoops, I'll be running these for Circuit racing also) and Balistic Cat's and Mufflers.

And although she will problably never read it I have to thank my 8 1/2 month pregnant wife Jody for putting up with all this racing caper for so many years, and for letting me travel all over the country. I love you baby, and always will :)

Thanks also must go to the supporters, you guys keep us going. I didn't have a lot of time to chat to you guys, but thank you for coming out and I hope you all keep supporting us.

    Stay Sidewayz Kidz!

    Dan.

great stuff, dan .. well done ....!!! .. it is a shame that the DA Championship has been reduced to a once a year event .... SHAME, SHAME, SHAME .... !!!!!

and li'l Baz ... yep, watching the Drift battles really is addictive ... just love it ... ONEhd has some good coverage of o'seas events from time to time .. but you have to keep a sharp eye on the guides to catch it ...!!!!

your silver beastie is looking good ... also like the look of that yellow zed ...!!!

It was nice to meet all you guys now that Im back on the east siiiide!

I felt a bit out of place without a drivers lanyard (wish I had my 86 ready as I would have gone in SD for sure)

Oh well, you guys made it a bit easier anyway as I was able to be in your pit garage and it kinda felt like I was invloved :S

Once again really good to meet you all and see the set up in the drift Z in the metal, I would like to enter every superdrift round next year, so maybe ill be seeing a lot more of you guys as well!

Dan's wife only lasted 1 week before she had the baby - and it came in a hurry.

They had packed the bags, Jodie had a shower and was dressed ready to go to the Hospital and Dan rang the Hospital to let them know they were coming.

When Dan went to get Jodie, she was getting pains so she undressed and 3 pushes later, Dan was holding his new baby boy - Liam. 40 minutes later the ambulance arrived !!!

All are doing fine, and Jodie's timing around the Drifting is impeccible, as per usual !!!

Here are a few more pictures from the day:

This is the spark plug lead that was inside an aluminium heat shield sleeve (1800 deg F) that also burnt through. This was one of our problems on the day. It runs better on 8 cylinders !!!

As per usual, we can't stop playing around with the car. I wasn't happy with the front bar, and we may even change the bonnet yet. The Judges said it looked to short on the track last year, so Kirk lengthened it, and because Dan keeps mounting the ripple strips trying to get close to the clipping points, he also left plenty of ground clearance.

The new bar is starting to take shape and looks more in proportion to the car.

    2010 race dates:
    • April 10 – 11 Eastern Creek Raceway NSW

    • September 4 – 5 Mallala Motorsport Park SA

We will need some sponsors next year if we are to get to all of the rounds - Tasmania and Northern Territory !!!

    Cheers
