Hey guys. I changed my rear center tail light the other day and in doing so have moved the boot lock. Anyway. Now I think its too high and my boot wont open. Even when im on an angle forwards so there is a little less weight on the lock from the boot it doesn?t help

Can anyone suggest what I should do so I can get the bugger open?

    Thanks,

    erik

have a frind pull the boot release

while you try opening the boot at the same time, even get the mate to hold in the release position while you wiggle and manipulate the boot.....
try the key as well if its the right key for your lock(mine isnt)

sorry i forgot to mention, yeah i have tried to left and move while mate holds release, but no good. thats what i did last time this happened about a year ago....but now it wont work. after i got it open a year ago i put some rubber lining ontop of my lights to keep the boot up so when i released it it would open. but i took that rubber off not thinking and now im stuffed :(

    cheers anyway mate

    Hmmm

although this is completly different i think it deals with the same component

My boot wouldn't shut for a while, and one day, got off my lazy a$$ and actually looked at the boot release to find that a couple of bolts were loose, etc, i'd say ur release is actually siezed up somehow Eric which prevents it from unlocking, but then again im prob completely wrong

By my money is on the release mechanism itself

the only diff is....your boot was open so you could get to it....mine is closed and i have that plastic crap on it and that wont come off unless the boot is open ahahahahhaha....ill just persaude it to open lol

sounds more like its too high than low.. need to give it a good blow down wards pushing the hatch down while someone is playing with the release to release the tension off the catch so the spring can pull the catch open

be careful though as the boot steel is quite thin and dents easily

    got the bastard open lol

in order for this not to happen again im assuming i move the lock down.

yeah just a little.. should be in such a location that the boot has no movement when closed but opens easy when delatched (just pops a little)

if its set too far the other way youll be able to jiggle the boot up and down a little when closed

My boot got stuck in the same way today. Wont open with key or latch release, tried jiggling, pulling boot up & down etc, boot wont budge. Any ideas on how to get the boot open without doing any damage?

My hatch used to make a click if l pulled the lever slowly (must have clicked when l used the key too, buy l don't remember. If l didn't hear that click then l knew the hatch release hadn't popped the latch. I would try again or just loop the seat belt under the release latch lever while l get out and walk to the rear and lift.
After being rear ended (and getting repaired) l noticed l couldn't get that click sound, l took the car back to get it adjusted. Couple of days of them adjusting it and no result.

The hatch lock looks very simple compared to some other makes l have looked at. Other locks have an obvious popper mechanism. I can't see one on the Z32, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Maybe that expert will chime in and explain it all. In the meantime, l found this suggestion on another site (it may give a clue) :)

yo i had the same problem...so i took the center cover off (at the latch) and with a pair of needle nose pliers bent the little part that the cable hooks into. Whats happening is that the latch is not completly opening cause the cable is stretched or the little tab is bent .its supposed to click openng Trunk

in the hatch were the latch hooks into ...take the center inside panel off (2 finger nuts) and you will be able to see the cvable were it hooks into the latch bend the tab towards the latch away from the cable ....the latch was made to click open when the handle by the seat is pulled....even though youare getting the hatch to open its not opening the latch all the way thats why its shutting back as soon as you let go of the handle.........good luck......simple fix

Thanks for that. What is happening though is that the key is turning all the way & the latch release can be pulled all the way up with little resistance & there is no "click", as if the boot has already been unlocked but is somehow stuck. Unable to remove interior plastic panels to get to the lock as its a 2 seater & I can't seem to fit my way in there :-(

in the back there should be two access panels for the tail light globes, normally used when you have to replace a globe......try pulling these of and seeing if you can see anything out of the ordinary......going to be a contortionist act, but hey, what other options you got? not many......

I had the problem, and ended up in the boot with a small wood chisel jammed between the boot lid and the rear plastic. I managed to shave enough of the plastic away to pull the centre panel off and get to the lock to manually open the boot.

Every other time I've had to adjust the latch, I make sure the centre panel is off, and the latch is tested with the boot lid open a few times first.

    Strange

Went to try & fix this over the weekend & strangely the boot worked 100% ok when I went to check it & has kept working fine since... Gremlins maybe?
