Hi, Just wondering if anyone has bought wheels/tyre from Tire Rack in the states. I have got a really good quote from them for some Enkei RPF1's. CHeers.
on the ford xr6t forums TireRack is rated very highly and i hear great reviews from members about TR. They are really quick on delivery too so yeah. Thumbs up for it.
No point! unless you CANNOT get these rims ordered in by a major wheel dealership in Aus because the money you save on the rims is TOTALLY killed by the shipping to get them here...lets face it even if you got volk TE37's from the US...4 rims weighing less than 10kg each will still cost u heaps in shipping. Most major wheel and tire places will sell Enkei rims! and if you said you would pay cash then they will probably mark them down a bit for you anyway...
I have got a number of quotes from places in Australia and they all have to import them anyway. The price I have from Tire Rack is about $600 to $800 dollars cheaper than any OZ supplier and that includes shipping of 3 to 5 business days. Why pay extra to the middle men over here to import them and pass them on. Anyone else interested let me know.
tire racks awesome especially if your buying big fat mommas 285+++++ talk 2 zductive he has dealt with them before.. try buying a 285*40*r18 locally.. there asking 700+ per tyre..
Yeh I bought RPF1's from Tire Rack over a year ago, well packed and good service. Need a couple more, how much did they quote you for four Xta5y?
I'm looking at 17x8.5 front and 17x9.5 rear for track work, also had a look at their price for the Advan A048 and its pretty good, shame they dont sell the Toyo R888 really. Their price for the Hankook R-S2 is great which is what i run now, the R-S3 looks nice but for some reason it isn't sold over here in OZ so am wondering why but the S3 looks like it might be the future replacement for the S2.
Quote: We would charge $1253.95 US for the four wheels with shipping. That includes $242 each for two of the Bright Silver finish Enkei RPF1 wheels in size 17x8.5, $260 each for two of in size 17x9.5 and $249.95 for FedEx Economy shipping to your address in Australia. Shipping would normally take three to five business days. Although lug nuts will be sent at no charge, center caps are not included in the price of the Enkei RPF1 wheels. The caps are available as an option for $25 each if you would like to add them. If anyone else is interested could be an option for bulk buy and maybe a reduced price, you never know.
Purchsed 4 tyres from them June last year Sumitomo HTR Z III Pair of 18 x 255 Pair of 18 x 285 AUD $1,094 Delivered
I wasn't charged either. I should mention the exchange rate at the time was 0.9359 to the aussie dollar plus $30 for the exchane fee
Buying wheels from the states is fine... I brought some wheels in for my corvette and as companies in the states generally have a account with fedex postage is very reasonable. Most dealers will put a low value on items eg 400usd and no duty or gst would be charged...
a) Your using the wrong tyre, 30 or 35 series to keep the right rolling diameter and b) Your not shopping hard enough. You can buy Hankook 295/30/18 or 285/30/18's for $300 a tyre. Kumho you can buy those sizes for $250 a tyre and sumitumo you can get them for around the $300 as well. I've used Michilin Pilots and Pzero's in these sizes, the hankooks were better than the pilots in the wet and road noise although didn't last as long. The Pzero's were the best all round, but for $800 a tyre, didn't see the point once i tried the cheaper tyres.
You WILL get charged GST, but because the tyres are manufactured in the US the North American Free Trade Agreement makes it so that we, being Australia and several other countries, don't have to pay a Duty Tax on those goods. Buying stuff that was manufactured elsewhere, ie JAPAN, you will probably get hit with Duty. That being said, Customs generally don't bother trying to stick you with duty or anything like that if your buying under ~$1,000AUD of goods. There's a thread from my experiences called... "Help with shipping from America" or words to that effect
Maybe I'll ask Tire Rack to split the items when shipping so that they fall under $1000, I thought the wheel's normally ship in individual boxes anyway.
If they're 100% manufactured or, for the majority, completed in the US, you just need a certificate of origin for them. This is, however, a VERY rare case. Coz, from ConceptZPerformance, had never experienced this until just a few weeks ago, this is after a long, long time of sending stuff to Australia. I refer to a post from the thread I referred to earlier; Cheers, Tom
Duty/GST is calculated on the total all up price you pay which includes the freight. It does not matter how many boxes are involved, its considered one shipment if they are all sent together.
