If your new to the forums... HEY :)

good choice in the 300zx and if you havent already looked theres a great tech section that has FAQ's and a section on ""Buying a zed?, what should you know""http://tech.aus300zx.com/

Or the link from this forum is just up to the left :)

Good luck and ill leave the rest to the more knowlegable :D:zlove::zlove::zlove:

**EDIT** in the main menu of the tech section go to ""content"" for the FAQ's and other info :)

Have a look through the tech section, theres a great guide on buying a zed
Let's face it, these cars are 19 year old (mines nearly 20:eek:) performance cars, they are going to drink. treat it well and you'll get ~12l/100km around town
NA's do have less to go wrong than tt's. not to say because you buy an NA it will be guaranteed reliable though....
nothing too major, PTU springs to mind
LOOK AROUND and DO NOT buy the first one you see. get a reputable forum member in your area to check it out before you buy, someone who knows about zeds. one with a 100k service already done is a plus ($750 in parts if your handy, if not $1500 at a mechanic). also learn to do things yourself. they are complicated cars to work on and labour costs are a killer if you take it to a mechanic.

if your pockets are deep and you know heaps about fixing a car yourself, buy a Zed

They're great but you need to be open to the fact that even qualified mechanics dont like working on them coz they are a bitch to work on...hence my fist statement.

Thats not a stab at 300zx ownership. Its a reality we ALL have to admit and live with.

there are great zeds to be had out there, recently the prices of n/a's have gone up. i love zeds but wouldnt recommend one as your first car.

For the money a good n/a costs id be getting a bmw e36 328i manual

    Hey

Like all the above posts there is a tech link above and the section is in there what to look out for, I've owned my 300zx NA now for a couple of years fully trouble free pretty much, good on fuel (get around 600k's to the tank on freeway less around town of course) for a 5 speed manual, and havent had any troubles with leaks cause its a hard-top non targa even those if the moulds are good wont leak, just make sure you look after it, coolant levels oil etc and I dont think you will have a problem with an NA, unless you buy one with problems.

Absolutely agree 100%. Buy a car that's cheap and easy to learn on and save for your Zed and buy a good one later.

Hmm I got an idea. You should buy mine :D

I was in the same position almost 2 years ago
Just take your time, make sure to get it professionally inspected if you don't know what you're doing
Will save you lots of $$ in the long run
