Hi guys, I'm about to put my gearbox back into my car How do you guys go about it? don't mention hoist Is it car on stands plus trolley jack? big bench press effort? I hope I can learn from your experiences before I learn all the ways not to do it...
remove teh shifter and bracket. get tranny as far up into the tunnel as possible. use a tranny jack. wiggle it forward!! oh and dont forget the shims
I've done it a couple of times. I used a trolley jack and a can of spinach. Is a lot easier with a second pair of hands.
Yep, make a support thing for it and use a trolley jack or two. You realy have to stab it into the clutch. It's the worst bit of changing the clutch...
i used a trolley jack with a pice of wood bolted to it and a strap securing it down its all just wiggling it and lowering it and rasing it to the right height. as soon as it was about 100mm away from the back of the engine I put one of the long bolts in there and started tightening it up which brought the box in then I started on the other side so there wasent to much stress on that one side.
You can borrow my spade jack if you like. If you got new engine mounts the firewall interferes a bit, I used some leverage on the dump pipes to tilt the engine while working it in. If you leave it til the weekend I can head over and help out and you can check other stuff against my Z.
The metal spacers that go between the engine and the tranny. I'd imagine it'd be pretty frustrating to get it in, only to have to pull it out again because you forgot something (isn't it always?)
have the same job to do fairly soon.... couple weeks and ill have the last parts hopefully... interested in coming and helping with another one??
been there, done that. very frustrating make sure you get the shims in the right place too, i had mine upside down so took me 3 attempts.
Did mine Did mine not that long ago if someone needs help I may be able to come and play, depending on weekend as I work every second one
