Hi, I have taken my Z32TT to the Zed Shop, and this is what I have been qouted. Both front Tie Rod and Lower Ball Joint rubber boots Both front Tension Bar bushes Left Hand rear Tie Rod New Clutch slave and Master Cylinder Air Filter Front Both upper Control Arm Second Hand Ignition Modue Second Hand Coolant Sensor Second Hand Knock Sensor These are the works need to be done and they have qouted me, $1,500 to do the job. Is it fair? Or am I being charged to much? Thank you.
sounds ok. But i would be asking what the reasoning is behind replacing all these parts is, unless you know why and it's obvious? did you have a crash? why the upper control arms and tie rods? i would also demand new knock and coolant sensors as it wont cost much more and it's not the sort of things u would bother getting second hand, especially not the knock sensor! Would also consider some aftermarket parts instead of the standards ie. a POD filter instead of just new panel filters. I am interested on how they intend to replace the knock sensor too... as far as i know, both the upper and lower intake plenum need to come off to do this... bigish job!
so they are replacing the actual knock sensor and replacing it in the stock location ??? if so this job alone would cost you the $1500...
Choice of workshop perhaps?? Just for your information as a 'junior' member on this forum!.........regardless of the quoted price being good or not??.........some people in Vic swear by The Z Shop????......whereas others, myself included, would NEVER take their car to this workshop! .......(for reasons which I will happily discuss with you in private via PM) ...........& these people generally prefer to use a mechanic called Joe Imbesi! Do a quick 'search' on Joe.......most Vic members consider him to be "The Man" when it comes to the Z! ......which you will soon find from the great things most people have to say about him in their posts! :zlove: At the end of the day it's your car & your decision??.......but I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the alternatives here in Vic?? Food for thought!
I am in Melbourne, and I didn't know where to go, so I did a search on the net, and I found the Zed Shop, it is just that I didn't think replacing a few things would cost that much.
Has anyone actually used the Zed shop before, could you please kindly share your opinions, it is just that I am 10mins from where the Zed shop is that is all. But their Website looks doggy that is all...
Joe is your man for major work! For minor repairs keep an eye out for tech days or come along to a cruise etc sometime soon!.......get to know your local forum members!.......you'd be surprised how helpful they can be for such an ugly bunch! ......& of course use this forum to source good deals on parts both new & used! :zlove:
hehehhe.... welcome to the life of owning a zed... you'll soon learn that maintenance on the zed will be very expensive if you always get a mechanic to do the work. Remember, they were $80K+ when new, and the parts are still damned expensive. This forum is a wealth of knowledge, and most people do things them selves to save themselves lots of money.... ask for help, and you shall receive. Cheers
Thank you once again, It was my dream car when I was 18 but back then I just couldn't afford one, and also the insurance cost. I have only had it for 2 days, it drove like shxt, so I took it to the Zed shop...and they qouted me $1500. Anyway, I have always wanted one, it just look so good, after all these year it is still a Fairlady, if another 20years pass, I believe it will still look that good. It is just a timeless classic.
Try... Tektrader in Bayswater Hey Selmax, I'm currently getting my car fixed with Tektrader, he lets you work with him. Best thing he teaches you as he works away. Plus his prices are good. I wonder why they want to replace your det sensor, are you running in safety boost then? Tektrader can hook up his laptop and check to see if it's working properly anyway. Best to chat with him. Currently I've done this so far at his place, Front Mount Intercooler installed ECU-Detonation problem resolved Rear brakes repaired/refreshed Spark Plugs Fuel lines replaced Boost jets installed Boost guage $1050 A fellow Z member 'ran away' from the Z-Shop.. I won't say why. But I had a similar occurence. I won't be calling them. PS: If they said you need control arms, do you tyres wear on the inside curvature? Mine do, and I'm soon to get them fixed. Also, Welcome to the Z parade!
thank you, I am actually trying to find a set of standard Z32 Alloys, anyone has got a set in Melbourne
2nded. Check with Tekkie. Being able to watch / assist with the work is the best way to learn and to know the job is done & done right. Not impuning the first workshop in any way but I'd also ask why they want to replace those sensors with 2nd hand items especially det sensor.
