Has anyone replaced their wiring loom (with a new one) with the engine still in? How hard is it to get through the firewall? anyone done this and can share any details?

    its a royal PITA.

there is a bracket mounted on the cabin side of the firewall that must be removed to get the wiring loom out. but before you can do that, you have to remove the heater core casing. before you can do that, you have to remove the glove box. all of which is easier said than done.

    In that case...

Was thinking about replacing it rather than trying to breathe life into the old one..... im convinced.... will fix up the old one and replace it later down the track... :( :( :(

    It's just time consuming.

You will need to do this:

From there you need to undo 2 10mm bolts behind the a/c unit that hold a plate that prevents the harness from moving, and undo the zip tie half way up on the inside of the firewall which is also securing the harness from moving.

re-installation is a little easier than the install. PZP sell the RHD harnesses for cheap; around $600AU. I would personally prefer to replace it than soldier 3/4 of the broken connectors on again. Depends on what you can afford i suppose.

    I've done it 2 times

in just over 12 months. Different cars, out then in on my old Z, then out of the old and new Zs and into the new. It does take time but it's not that hard after you remove dash, heater ac etc. In both of mine I disconnected the ac lines to remove the ac box to get more room. There are 1 or 2 hard to access connections near the front of the engine too.

Are you talking the whole loom or just the EFI harness? I'm looking at replacing my EFI harness with the '95 model one. Just wondering if it's any simpler to do just the EFI harness.
