OMG.. like an idiot!! ive finished my plenum pull and under plenum water by pass!!! Put everything back together

BUT I think ive shredded the thread inside the hole circled in yellow..

i can hear air or something hissing out from there!!!

does it mean i have to get a new plenum??

or is there a way to fill it up so i could tighten up the bolt??

you can fix that quite easily.

Grab a heli - coil kit and follow the instructions , or just drill and tap it out to a larger size.

Alternatively call in a mobile thread repair sepcialist if u dont feel up to it yourself :)

    there is

plenty of meat in that part of the plenum so id do a larger diameter bolt eh. just remember if you do, to drill out the balance rail to suit the new bolt.

i would also sugget using some thread sealant ont he bold say some loctite 567 from memory...

let us know how u go.

Is the way to go, can do it yourself if you have the kit,
Or most garage workshops should be able to do it for you.
Get some rags or tape over the balance tube holes in the plenum before you drop something in there, or you will be pulling it off again to fix the engine.

I'd remove the plenum whilst using the heli-coil. Then blow out the crap inside the plenum with compressed air BEFORE replacing the plenum.

There will be aluminium shavings that will prob end up inside the plenum and then into the motor otherwise  ...

Try a longer bolt first. You might find the thread goes right through but the bolt doesn't and a longer bolt will have some new thread to grip on. Something easy to try before pulling the plenum off again.

    That bolt

hole is blind, at least it is on the two plenums I have at home, and the bolt that goes in there is not long enough to push through into the inside off the plenum. If air is escaping round that area, it possibly because you have pinched the o ring.

Yea I changed mine to studs all round on the Balance tube as I was worried about thread wear on that exact hole

I did the same a few years back. Just went and got some threaded rod the same as the old bolts and locktited the rod in. A nice set of polished stainless dome nuts and it looks great.

Sounds like a good idea - I had 5 helicoils put into my plenum while it was off....had always had problems with those threads, studs would mean no more problems..:zlove:

It's not blind on the two I have so it must be a lucky dip
