Are there any QLD laws on modifications to air intake or intercoolers that I should be aware of?

During a recent engine rebuild I put in a new radiator, new side mounted intercoolers that are larger than standard, plus replaced the original airbox with an apexi air intake.

    Is any of this illegal?

Probably illegal... Most cops are to ignorant of the Z32 to know what side mounts are and where the air filter is.

prolly true, although they are nice and shiny so perhaps i will paint them black to camoflage them, since the original ones were black also....

If you have kept Side Mount IC's I doubt that you would have a problem(because Z32's have side mounts), however, I think you could have trouble with the Apexi Air Cleaner.
I disagree with Cops not being able to ask you to remove the Centre Panel, they certainly can, and do, in NSW.:zlove:

    have a read - a good guide....

They are not illegal IF you have them in the original place OR you can have FMIC if you have original airbox - I have pod + FMIC + stock bar... never been pulled over..

Just incase I do get pulled over, I have changed 1 of the screws to a bolt, so that they would need a socket set to get into my airbox. I would love to say this was intentional.

i have an apexi pod filter also but honestly they will find more things before that....so i wouldnt be worried

In QLD, as far as intercoolers go in QLD, the following applies.

    • It and it's piping can not protrude past the front bumper in any direction, aka throught the front of the bar, the sides or below the bar.
    • You can not modify the chassis to accommodate the intercooler(s) (without an engineers certificate). If it's bolton that's OK.
That was the word from the guy that passed my car over the pits after my defect.

Did you have a pod as well pex that they had a look at? or was that not on the list from Mr Plod.

All pod filters are generally for track use only, however it's so rarely enforced (I've never seen it) that nobody really worries about. Look on the box your filter came in, it will even tell you as much.

Pod filter was no problem over the pits for me.
