A good news story >>> Last week after installing BOV's and during static testing I heard a nasty CLINK from front of motor, drivers side. All who heard it including yours truly thought noise was from cams/lifters or VVT gear. Off to Gav and 5 minute diagnosis was P/S pump front bearing knackered... so... This morning when GW removed P/S pump the pulley and shaft literally fell out on the bench along with remaining 6 ball bearings and a few munched up ones. New bearing/seal @ $13.50 + 3hrs labour and its all fixed. Many thanks to Gavin & Shane @ AutoTech Labrador. :zlove: :zlove: :zlove:
That's a pretty good price and service Rob. Most mechanics would run away screaming like a little girl when they realised the location of the PS pump, not mention they would advise exchanging the whole unit. Wish there were more Gavin Woods around
Agreed Not a job I'd like to do myself ... even with a hoist. Gav's now how and the ever smiling Shane made it look easy. PS: I held the trouble-light. Hardest part was removing bearing (outer) shell from the pump body. Quite amazing that after billions of revolutions the bearing had not quite failed completely... was only a few k's away though!
I'd rather do a 100k service or plenum pull, maybe both, than attempt P/S pump r & r at home without a hoist. St B's Oysters Kilpatrick worked for everything else.
So the job's not done from the top? Remove radiator, pipes (intake etc), disconnect P/S pump and remove?
HAHA thats the 2nd time hes been called a SoftCock this week However its a bastard job which ever end you tackle it from.
Drop splash guard, sway bar and remove alternator. Remove TB soft/hard pipes and undo top P/S hose and rest is from below.... with some difficulty.
!00% back Mr Gavin and team. Next year he will be doing a good list of work for me. On the coast I wouln't concider anyother machanic...unless he recomended it. Arh Blazeityour still kicking around, nice to hear.
Sounds like Baron prefers the 'on top' method. Which reminds me - K-zed hasn't got a response about the oysters from you yet ... whatever that's all about .
