After 6yrs without a single major mechanical or electrical problem, my car refuses to start today.

Full battery power present, everything working as expected, but absolute silence when turning the ignition key to START. Not even a faint click. IGN shows all warning lights that normally illuminate, but when turned to START, the Cat Temp warning light illuminates(until the key is released). Nobody available to help a push/clutch start attempt. Any ideas guys?
Drove the car all day yesterday, with no indication of a problem(parked in locked garage all night)??????

Auto ? Left in drive ? Faulty switch on gearbox ? Juggle shifter helps ?

    Jammed starter solenoid maybe?

Try giving it a gentle tap with a hammer. Also possibly the relay that supplies power to the solenoid?

Yeah, I spent a good 20 mins trying to work out why nothing happened when I tried to start my car and it was in drive...Doh.

Agreed with the starter solonoid...possibly a bad earth for an option on the simpler side, possibly buggered solonoid on the other end of the scale...seeing as it only just occured out of the blue I'd look at the starter relay, maybe bypass it and see if it kicks over, if not have a look at the solonoid connections and earth.

If you need a push give me a call old man...I'll bring some youthful exuberance to the table.

mine did something similar, found it to be the ptu replaced with

series 2, immediate startup , reconnect the old unit and no start.
I had driven to a mate place with out any indication of a problem turn the motor off, later tried to start it no go, we immediately pulled the ptu and opened it sure enough broken jumper, fixed it and got the car home only to have it do the same thing next time I tried to start it so got the new ptu and wired it in no more problems since and I will swear the motor ran a lot sweeter, better mileage and appeared to go harder when needed.

    Have fun

I don't think the ptu has anything to do with the starter motor...Chili's car isn't even turning over, definately somewhere in the starter motor circuit. If it was turning over then I'd leave the inevitable PTU cry alone, but not this time.

    Chil's car is a manual

Agree with JT could be a stuck solinoid, get some help to rock the car back and forth in gear to move the flywheel and see if it will release.
Could also so be a problem with your imobiliser system.

    Could also possibly be the

ignition stub at the back of the switch where the loom plugs into. One phillips head screw holds it in.
Have sold a few recently due to failure.

Will a car still turn over if the CAS is unplugged?

    ?

No Jono, the car is not turning over at all.
Turn the key and get nothing from under the bonnet at all (if I read it i correctly)

    Hey lloyd

My starter motor is sitting in a box at the moment, should be in working order if you want to swap them over to diagnose?

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

LLoyd, RedZedOne started doing this intermittently. Put car in 2nd gear, rock car back and forth a couple of times, presto, she starts.

I recently bought a write off for the manual gear box to convert mine. It too did the same thing yours is doing Lloyd. Only way I could get the starter motor to kick over was to depress the clutch and jiggle the shifter around the neutral area and it came to life so the issue with mine is the neutral switch, something you could try?

    No Start UPDATE

    OK! Folks.
Firstly, thanks to everyone for the ideas and offers of assistance, much appreciated.

Secondly, tried rocking the car yesterday(in gear) with no obvious success. Came home from work this morning, armed myself with all the necessary tools and multi meter, stuck the key in the IGN (and thought "Why not?"), turned the key, and PRESTO!
Bastard started first kick, and is running like a dream:mad::bash: (They do this, so that you will NEVER know what caused the problem in the first place, and you can live in fear from now on, waiting for it to happen again).:banned::zlove:
