I was looking into setting up a group buy for Dynamat sound deadening and was wondering what type of interest there is for this product.

Also whether people are interested in doing both doors and boot or just the doors.

The kits that I am gauging interest on are as follows:

First there is the door kit, which has enough to cover both inner and outer door skins for both zed doors which has 1.1 sq meters included.
    $90

Than there is the boot kit which has enough to do the boot and hatch which includes 1.9 sq meters
    $140

Than there is the Bulk kit which I would recommend for anyone doing both doors and boot as it has a little more than the other 2 kits at 3.3 sq meters instead of 3 sq meters. And is a little cheaper. Or for those people only interested in doing the doors they can buy 1 kit between three people, which would work out cheaper than the door kit by itself for each.
    $210

The prices don?t include postage but should not be more than $25 for the bulk pack (hopefully). Pickup is available for the Melbournians from Mulgrave (south east).

I am looking to get at least 6 people interested in this group buy but I?m just going to leave this up till the 14th of June to gauge interest.

Also if anyone is interested in any other Dynamat products just let me know and I?ll get back to you with the best price I can get.

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

I bought a dynamat extreme bulk pack on ebay not long ago for $217 + $25 post. If you do a search it is still there by the same seller so I would say it is readily available.

    thanks for the hint.

First of all for those looking to lighten there car, i would not recomend this product as the first thing sound deadening does is add weight. The reason you would want to add weight is to stop vibrations in the panels with this it lowers outside road noise, so that is the one bonus.
And from every 3db of noise you reduce from outside the car. Thats 3db you gain in volume from your stereo. That is quite a reasonable gain considering that every 3db increase is double the power. so that is another bonus.

As well as all that. with this sound deadening you also can cover up all the service holes in the car door so that you get the full audible quality from those expensive splits that you have in your door as you stop cancellation.

cancellation is when the front wave of the speaker meets the back wave of the speaker and that note that your speaker is playing is than cancelled out.

another feature of dynamat extreme is the thin metal film on one side of it which acts as a heatsink to disapate heat so your car will be cooler in the summer.

I hope that gives people some idea.

    some info for people...

I'm sure those that are into car audio know about the benefits of dynamat, but for those that dont, I thought I would share my experience....

About 2 years ago, I stripped my entire boot and doors and dynamatted everything... I plugged up all the service holes in the doors with mdf and tape, then put the dynamat on top, on both the inner and outer door skin. The entire boot was lined with dynamat as well.

Having done that, many of the annoying zed rattles were eliminated and the efficiency of my door speakers was dramatically enhanced. The mid bass range was fantastic, and at the time, people that travelled in the car thought I had a subwoofer in the back, which at the time I didnt. I added one later to enhance the system and fill up that gap in the sub bass area....

but yeah, I highly recommend it to anyone. The only downsides I can think of is the cost (which isnt so bad if you get it through dbcar) and the time it takes for a good installation. But we all own zeds, and I'm sure we've all spent more than one weekend doing stuff to our cars..:)

thanks for the info 90TTZ and jedi-77 for all the info.

    great help.

And hopefully if we get 6 or more bulk packs sold i should be able to get the price down a little more.

I'll register my interest, and possibly a mate or two now that I think about it.
I've had my car a year and still have the crappy jap tape deck in it but a full system is on the list at some point. So this would be a perfect start.

Might even cut out some of the drone from my exhaust. :)

What's the best dynamat product to use for sound

deadening the entire car. I've ripped out and binned my old sound deadening so I need something to quieten it down (note I have solid suspension throughout with solid engine mounts and solid gearbox mounts so noise is going to be deafening.

It would probably stregthen the box a bit but for the back of sub boxes to remove backwave distortion you would have to use Dynaxorb.

for the doors you can get a small pack that has 2 15x15cm peices for $40
and for sub boxes there is the pack that has 8 15x15cm peices for $115

If you want to do the whole car you will probably need at least 2 bulk packs and than i would recommend Dynapad, but it is quite expensive. it is a 4 part composite barrier that you use on top of the dynamat extreme. its non adhesive so you would have to find a way to stick it where you want it.
As well as extra sound deadening it is also thermal insulation, so would be good for over the gerabox and drive shaft area of the cabin and over the firewall.
The Dynapad is $130 for every (81x137cm) 1.1sq metres or $120 each for 4 packs or more.

or you could go for the Dynaliner over Dynamat Extreme. The Dynaliner doesn't add any extra sound deadening but is very good for heat blocking and is self adhesive. I can get it at 12mm thick and each pack has (81x137) 1.1sq metres and is $120 per pack

The Dynapad is Vinyl and the Dynaliner is a synthetic foam.
Both aren't affected by oil and they don't absorb water.
