    I wouldnt

    Hey Ali,

Ali, I heard of a few machanics that no matter how high in octain the fuel is the ultimate goal is too steer clear of ethinol.
With me man, I refuse to put it in no matter how desperate I am.
I find myself at home with Caltex Vortex 98. But BP Ultimate is another and then Mobil 98. Nothing else. Steer clear from Shell entirly!

    v power has no ethanol lol ;) ;) ;)
Shell has launched Optimax Extreme, a high performance fuel for sports cars, which contains 5% ethanol

Don't use ethanol blended fuels unless you have later style pintle-less injectors.

Apart from that, there were a few other things to change if you plan to use it.

I'll try to find out what else there was.

    Changing timing maps was one..

Optimax is now known as unleaded 95 and the 98 octane fuel is known as V power. Only a few Shell servo's have V Power RACING which is the 100 octane fuel and has 5% ethanol. I think Nissan doesnt recommend using ethanol in cars built pre 94 as it does something to the injectors. I think ethanol causes corrosion or something like that.
I pump Caltex Vortex 98 too... because I get the safeway discount. lol :D :D

I run it all the time

V-Power has no ethanol. You'll find most places that used to have optimax will sell this now (and none i dont think will have both because its the replacement for optimax). Its the new 98ron fuel. Instead of premuim there is now unleaded 95 and then there is still the std run of the mill unleaded.

I have been running v-power for about 2 months now perhaps longer come to think of it...and i think its great.

I run V-power extreme with pintle style injectors. Fine so far.

V-Power is just optimax isn't it?

Any brand of 98 should be fine, honestly I don't think there's much difference between 98 and i'm pretty sure most of sydney's fuel all comes from the same place anyway.

That said I get a warm fuzzy feeling from using ultimate.

    Ethanol

As I understand it, ethanol will cause your car to run leaner but I don't see why this couldn't be compensated for with a good tune. At 5% ethanol it may not even make a difference but you'd probably want a dyno run to be sure.

That said, on the older series Z32 there is an issue with the injectors. I have only a basic understanding but do a search I'm sure this has been covered -something to so with always having power to the injectors on older cars and this causing a process whereby the ethanol causes corrosion. Like I said I can't offer a good explanation but that's the basic idea.

Doesn't ethanol create corrision because ethanol is alcohol,
a surfactant, which has the the ability to mix polar and non polar particles.
    water and oil
Also, alcohol being water based, also creates a problem.

    catch the drift.??

    correct me please

    infact

    try it,
get a high proof spirit, and put vegetable oil in it, see if it mixes.
if i'm wrong you'll get layers.

    if i'm right....drink it.

    ethanol

Ethanol fuel is an alternative to gasoline. It can be combined with gasoline in any concentration up to pure ethanol (E100). Anhydrous ethanol, that is, ethanol with at most 1% water, can be blended with gasoline in varying quantities to reduce consumption of petroleum fuels and in attempts reduce air pollution. In the U.S., ethanol capabilities vary widely and most spark-ignited gasoline style engines will operate well with mixtures of 10% ethanol (E10).

In Brazil, ethanol-powered and flexible-fuel vehicles are manufactured to be capable of operation by burning hydrated ethanol, an azeotrope of ethanol (around 93% v/v) and water (7%). Hydrated ethanol may also be mixed with gasoline in flexible fuel vehicles but a minimum amount of ethanol (granted by legally regulated gasoline type C) is required to avoid problems with the mixture. A few flexible-fuel systems, like Hi-Flex, used by Renault Clio and Fiat Siena, can also run with pure gasoline. :D :D :D :)

Ethanol is increasingly used as an oxygenate additive for standard gasoline, as a replacement for methyl t-butyl ether (MTBE), the latter chemical being difficult to retrieve from groundwater and soil contamination. At a 10% mixture, ethanol reduces the likelihood of engine knock, by raising the octane rating. The use of 10% ethanol gasoline is mandated in some cities where the possibility of harmful levels of auto emissions are possible, especially during the winter months.[1] Ethanol can be used to power fuel cells, and also as a feed chemical in the transesterification process for biodiesel.

Ethanol can be mass-produced by fermentation of sugar or by hydration of ethylene from petroleum and other sources. Current interest in ethanol lies in production derived from crops (bio-ethanol), and there's discussion about whether it is a sustainable energy resource that may offer environmental and long-term economic advantages over fossil fuels, like gasoline or diesel. It is readily obtained from the starch or sugar in a wide variety of crops. Ethanol fuel production depends on availability of land area, soil, water, and sunlight.

In 2004, around 42 billion liters of ethanol were produced in the world[2], most of it being for use in cars. Brazil produced around 16,4 billion liters and used 2,7 million hectares of land area for this production, or 4,5% of Brazilian land area used for crop production in 2005.[3] Around 12,4 billion liters were produced as fuel to ethanol-powered vehicles in domestic market.

Do Shell advertise the new V Power fuel, as Optimax the only difference is a new advertising campain.
In other words Optimax is now called V Power & is still 98 ron as it was in the past.
    Something doesn't sound right here.
I've continued to use it & haven't had any problems what so ever.?:)
Someone from Shell willing to enlighten us.? :p :D
    Cheers

Shell claimed a world first when it launched its new flagship 100 octane fuel successfully formulated with 5% ethanol - Shell Optimax Extreme. Shell Optimax Extreme offers you the power of 100 octane, with the natural quality of ethanol. :D :D ;)

I was never a Shell man..until the Coles dockets came out. Then sleepy old Shell stations suddenly picked up their game. I reckon V Power (re-badged Optimax) runs extremely well in my TT Zed. I used to use Mobil before the discount tickets came in. But this was before the Zed.

Regardless of fuel nothing makes up for a good run..even mainly on cruise control. The Porsche boys call this the "Italian tuneup"
