    Hey evry1,

Some may hav noticed i had my Zed for sale recently...well iv had a rethink and decided to keep it :D (wether that was the rite thing to do practicality wise il soon find out) but as im keeping it im going on a bit of a buying frenzy while i hav some time off.

Now my car came with an alarm but theres something wrong with it, i cant activate the alarm so i went as far as testing the remote battery then thought though f&*k it hahaha, im not going to bother spending cash trying to track down the problem il just get sumthn new.

I was going to Brant to get my new alarm but thought i mite look on e-bay (even though im somewhat weary of buying an alarm off there) and expected to find el-crapo $100 alarms but came across this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MONGOOSE-M80G-CAR-ALARM-5-year-warranty_W0QQitemZ280061866493QQihZ018QQcategoryZ31250QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It looks pretty good to me and seems to b well priced, im still to ask the seller installation costs and cost of extras.

    So my questions are:

    1) Is it a good alarm that i can hav confidence in?
    2) Does it seem somewhat dodgy?
    3) How's the price?
    4) Recommendations on who in Sydney its worth getting to install?

Thanks alot for any help/comments :)

Have you thought about just getting your old system repaired? Ive got a brant imobiliser that had dead radio keys and I had lost the emergency code, so I mailed it all in and had it all repaired/checked over and the code retrieved (took less than a week and cost a lot less than a new system). If I still had the code I would of just ordered new keys. So I'll give them credit for excellent customer service.

Mongoose appears to offer pretty good systems with lots of accessories, Ive never used one personally. Awesome price though.

in my zed have found it to be very good. Price looks pretty good i payed $650 installed bu had some optional extras fitted with it Auto window rollup and a motion sensor so depending on how much you can get it installed for it looks like a good price. Sorry cant help with installer in sydney

I think car audio places usually install these systems. If you go to one of the bigger names like audiocomm, I'm sure you'll at least get a competitive price with a warranty on labour, even if it's not the cheapest. And at least then you can be confident in the install.

    In response:

    So my questions are:

    1) Is it a good alarm that i can hav confidence in? Yes - I have the Mongoose M80S alarm in my Z and it is a top product.
    2) Does it seem somewhat dodgy? I'd be a bit wary - how does he come across all these products so cheap? Has sold heaps of them, so how is he making a (legal) profit? On the plus side, he has 100% positive feedback. Says it comes with the standard 5 year warranty - make sure the original warranty card is included in the package if you go ahead.
    3) How's the price? Very good, but as I said how can he be making a profit from these if it's legit?
    4) Recommendations on who in Sydney its worth getting to install? Can't help you there sorry, though you should have a local Mongoose store that can fit it for you. Or as others have said, car audio places can do it, but a car alarm specialist would obviously be better.

Overall, a great product for a great price if it's fair dinkum. For that price, certainly would be worth considering. Though if you buy it legit from Mongoose and get them to install it, I'm sure it would save you money on the installation compared to just bringing one to them (or anywhere else) off the street.

    mongoose

Sorry to put a dampener on your thoughts of the mongoose. I'm not a professionall installer of alarms but I have put in 20 or so alarms in over the last couple of years for mates and their mates, mates etc. 2 of those were mongose alarms and both of them failed after around 18 months. Both times it was the siren that gave up. The ones that I have found to be the best are viper. For a budget price and a s#*t load of features the Rhino GX from dick smiths. Of the 15 of them I have put in not one has even thought about dying.

For quality and security tho, Viper all the way.

I had a viper in the Commodore i had before my Z and had nothing but trouble with it. to be fair it may have been a poor install job but also with the viper system all you have to do to disarm the whole system is unplug the main wiring plug from the box and Presto, no alarm, no imobilisers, no car.

I have had both the viper and the mongoose system and in my opinion the mongoose is the better product.

Hmmm thanks for all the comments, much appreciated.

At the price its at im considering it and will most likely giv it a go.

Iv heard many good comments and few bad and if i was to make a decision on bad comments then i would buy nothing at all as everything will always have pro's and con's and all i can do is make the best educated decision i can and hope for the best.

Thanks again and keep idea/commenst/suggestions coming, always helps
