Before everyone jumps on,i know it is illegal. If the 2 catalytic converters are removed,
1 . does it make a difference to performance
2 . does it make a difference to the exhaust note
3 . will there be any bad effects on the car,or just good ??

My first Z had pretty much just straight 3inch piping from each turbo, then into a single exhuast - 4inch i think. The thing was as loud as f*ck and was annoying as hell.

I have 'DIY' hi flow cats on my NA, there was a bit more in the top end, but thats it. The exhaust is a bit stinky too, especially if your runnin rich like me. My car got a little bit louder, but not noticebly to anyone else :p

As for bad effects, destroying the environment  Wont effect a turbo car, supposedly some backpressure issues with NA's but they haven't effeted me...

Oh yeah, $10,000 fine if you get caught

    1. yes helps performance by reducing restriction in the exhaust, i got 20hp out of v12 by removing the cats, it did have tiny ass cats tho.

    2. yes in my experience, there is a slight change in exhaust sound.

3.You might get bummed by one of the transport guys when he does an emission test :p

    Anwsers...

1 . Yes, but not much if you have hi-flow cats.
2 . Yes, exhaust note isn't as muffled
3 . No bad effects on the car, bad effects for the ozone.

I've no experience with emissions testing here, but guys in the states have passed emissions testing with no cats. Depends on how well your car is running.

They diconnect the fuel dampner and run really lean, bit too dangerous if you ask me. If I remember correctly it was to get around having old cats and gutted pre-cats.

depends on the year of the vehicle, a vehicle only has to comply with the emission laws set in the year of manufacture, obviously this has become more and more strict since 1990, basically its what is printed on the label under the bonnet, i think is 0.6% co for cars around that year, but keep in mind that even if you were able to meet the emission laws, without CATS, the removal of them is still illeagle

Not all resort to the vacuum line trick to pass emissions. A guy running downpipes, and testpipes ran 0.5% Co low, and 0.4% high with no mod.

Yeh, well aware of that. So is having a cabin mounted boost controller, removal of egr/aiv, carbon canister, and having gauges mounted on your a-pillar.

My point was, you can still pass the emissions testing without them.
