Wow.. thanks for the great input so far.....

I have been using Marklars consult cable up to now for testing as I have been too lazy (read cheap) to buy my own.. with such interest I think I will have to shell out for my own (can't keep his forever :D ) and really get stuck into this.. I have spent about 10hours so far on the application.. give me another week and I should have a beta for you guys and girls to play with... it'll be a work in progress so to speak.. but I will put up very regular updates, as I am a Z owner myself I have an active interest in seeing this project through... :zlove:

PS... keep the comments and suggestions coming... I have never found anything that can keep the inspiration up... I haven't stopped working on it tonight as everytime I look someone else has commented... it is great :)

Can you add customisable sounds to it, so that over temps, revs, pressure etc can be heard and can you have that particular over something get the focus on the screen? Possible integration with Bluetooth, GPS?:zlove:

How about an automatic shut down

if something goes seriously wrong ? But I guess, the sensors will not pick up if the timing belt slips or breaks, or if the coppers are waiting around the bend, or if you are going too fast round the corner.

What would be fantastic is a cable with a screen (yours, with the dials) at the end for less than $500. Some preset modes (touch screen or buttons) and no computer worries. Just this engine monitor you just plug in and mount somwhere on the dash.

(I work with maintaining (and selling/fixing) computers all day, every day and I hate (love) computers (you too))

    Hi there Black Z,

That looks GREAT, keep up the good work - you know you want to, right!

I would like to download that and give it a test, so please place me on the list too.

    Cheers, Kaz.

are you able to compile a version that doesn't use .Net? I'm stubborn about downloading that 20+ meg pile of poo. :p

I think I'll reply in groups... LOL..

I think I'll respond in groups LOL....

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MikeH : Sorry hate it or love it .Net is here to stay... BUT.. I will be toying with a linux/freeBSD version once a large chunk of the features are done on the Windows version.. I used to hate the thought of .Net and refused to move over instead sticking with c++ unmanaged code.. what a fool I was.. .Net has made my life so much easier with VERY little issues... (plus I can still use unmanaged code where I want).

    Zakkaz001 : Yes... I do want to..

Stef: I was considering an Artificial Intelligence Module that would also control the steering for you and apply the brake pedal if it sensed your anxiety levels going through the roof (.. jokes .... maybe).

Zeo: Over value warnings are already being worked on.. unfortunately boost is not possible as it isn't monitored (that I can see) by the ECU. I hadn't thought of sounds though but I was going to light up a 'Digital' LED and flash the surround of the offending gauge.

PS. I know it is a stupid name but visual studio requires some sort of name for the application... I'll come up with a better one..

    Edit---
One of the features I think some will like is the ability to have a "Digital Dash" output to a secondary video adapter... might lead to some interesting installs..

    Fantastic work Black Z.

Now I guess all I need is a car PC.

    Another Q

For the digital Dash idea, is the program capable of reading the fuel level, oil pressure, engine mamagement light, high beams, and indicators etc, or will some functions/gauges/lights etc still need to be operated the ol' fashion way :D

Looks awesome! Are they Dundas gauges? I contacted them a while back to see if they had any under development for our windows CE project but they didn't have any. When I do the next project (when I can be bothered :p) I will probably just develop it for xpE so that it will support the full win32 API. The project we just finished for uni was a pain in the ass to develop using the compact framework for CE. So many unsupported features and no good looking widgets unless you make your own - way to much work.

GOod work though, keep it up!

    Excellent work

Put me on the list too. I like the idea of sounds too especially as a shift indicator or TWD. Also the new EcuXtend software has the capability to change fuel maps and timing to increase engine power output. Just another idea.

    Cheers

    Dean.

Keep in mind that EcuXtend only changes..

the fuel and timing base's. You cannot change the timing and fuel at a per/rpm level.. If you change the timing to +4 it will apply +4 across the whole rev range... (As I understand it from the protocol technical manual).. but to answer your question.. YES I will be implementing the same feature, just don't confuse it with fully programmable ignition and fuel..

Unfortunately I can't see any interfaces with those components in

the DDL protocol map :( ...

My idea for the digital dash was more like the dash display on the R34 GTR's (Just much nicer and more feature rich.. ;) ) Although having said that.. to design a hardware inteface for those instruments shouldn't be too difficult for some of the electronics guru's our there... maybe a small box with a usb connection that can be spliced (for the want of a better word).. to the instrument wiring... I'd love to work with someone on that...

Partially Dundas..LOL.. I am using their templates as I didn't have the

time in photoshop to develop my own templates. As I am cross platform developing this product Dundas Gauges were not really permanent solution. I am using some of their API at the moment (I bought the 1.6 package for another project I was working on), but not much as I have to design from ground up for cross platform compatibility.. I am a big believer of not reinventing the wheel but sometimes a one size fits all approach just doesn't cut it... (Ever tried fitting dihatsu charade wheels to a Z - you know what I mean) ;)

Any chance of incorparting tri computer type functions? E.g. real time fuel consumption, average speed, distance to empty etc etc?

Would love to trial this in the car-pc I have almost finished building. It looks great!

    cheers

Opps I see.. the Ignition on the Gauge is right but not the LeftHand Panel..

If I were Microsoft the spelling correction would mean a complete new version number.. Maybe Seeecu Vista... :D
