Greetings this is my first post after lurking for quite a while however (in light of the recent Z tragedy) I am delurking to ask if any of your Zeds wear wheel clamps?

I am keen to buy a new Zed however I am wary because I don't have a lock up garage. I reckon you could even bolt some wheel clamps to the cement on the driveway to make it pretty hard to drive or tow away and coupled with a cable lock for the car cover could make the car pretty secure when I am out of town.

    wheel clamps....

wont stop a thief from breaking into your car and taking what is already there in view. This happened many years to go in my old car, luckily I caught the little punks..

anyway, if you're main aim is to stop thiefs from actually being able to drive away with the zed, then get a good quality alarm and install a ZID device from forum member zed4life.... contact him in regards to his ZID immoboiliser.. it works a treat..:)

    Cheers

I'd say investigate that ET tracking system. It uses GPS to track your car and if someone tries to steal it it sends an SMS to you and the tracking company. They then ring you and if you say your car is stolen (ie. your not with it) they remote kill the engine and call the cops with it's location. Costs around $1000 for full install and first yr tracking included then like $100-$200 p/yr after that I think. Expensive but makes ur car pretty hard to steal.

Mate if you go away for extended periods of time have a look at renting a storage shed to put the car in, doesnt cost too much. Ive used the Safe-N-Sound in kotara a few times, manager lives on site and all sheds are alarmed. Had my car only in a carport for 3 years in newie, only trouble I ever had was leaving the car unlocked one night with the interior light on and some povo scumbag went through the car looking for valuables, they didnt find anything though including the centre console full of change hehe. I also have an immobiliser and full comp insurance. Dont bother too hard trying to secure a car cover from theft, some idiot determined to steal it will damage crap out of it and the car just to prove a point. Other than that, you could try a good guard dog chained up to the car:D

    I have one of these

, although a different system, same concept, and sounds like similar features.

Get a dog to put in your garage. Same cost as a top alarm system but a much bigger deterent.

hehe A big dog sounds awesome but then I have to find somewhere to put the dog when I go away:D

Thanks for the ideas everyone.... I will probably go the GPS route and full fire and theft, dunno if comprehensive is worth when it costs me 15% of the value of the car every year (under 25)...

Goodluck with fire and theft. most companies only cover you if your car is worth less than $5000 for fire and theft. With Z's only options are usually full cover or 3rd party. :(

Dogs are the most useless deterrent around. The local punks learnt long ago that a handfull of chilli powder thrown at the dog's nose means no more dog hanging around. :(

agreed. the ZID saved my car from being stolen. Got pics of a smashed targa roof and exposed ignition barrel which I posted in the old forum a while back. had no car alarm back then, only the ZID. Forgot how much it was, less than $100 I'm sure, but I recommend it.
