It is because of the post made by Emanuell about the dayco belt, that

i did not want to put it on! Look personally i don't care if Amec or the Dayco rep are in the wrong. But however, if someone comes onto a public forum like this and makes a post like that, they should follow it up! After all these people are meant to be profesionals. This issue should be resolved.

Emmanuel has contacted Dayco on many occasions

without a response to the problem. Now I don't know how far someone has to go to satisfy you people. If you are really that concerned about getting to the bottom of the issue, I suggest you contact AMEC, get the contact details for Dayco, and chase them yourself. Emmanuel has cars to work on.

    High fuel consumption/poor performance?

One has to wonder how many timing belts are incorrectly fitted.

Perhaps anyone with high fuel consumption/poor performance should check actual timing -v- CAS position (should be central between adjustment slots) and investigate further if out of whack.

Well it was in the middle on the cas...

i get something like 300kms to 3/4 tank the light has never come on at all.. so not sure how many kms i am getting around town.. but on the highway i got around 10L/100 which i think is pretty good for a TT.

I need to put my car on the dyno see what performance it has got see what needs to be fixed etc.

i dont know where my cas is at now dont have the car with me or a timing light i guess i could get it done at the up and coming tech day.

I hope that my mechanic when putting on the new belt etc has done it correct they were useing a workshop manual so yeah.. They have done the timing on 5 of our cars and never had a problem so yeah.

pete ..once again you miss/avoid the real issue ... re-read my post

and that of anotherzedder and you may appreciate what the actual issue is ... my number was given to emmanuel, it was emmanuel who undertook to get back to me, it was emmanuel who posted the original issue, it was emmanuel who stated that he would get back to the forum ... BUT it is NOT emmanuel who is now the spokesperson ... capice ..???

surely emmanuel is able to post his difficulties with DAYCO ....... ????? ..more capice ..!!:(:(:(:(

    Forget it Baz...

Perhaps Emmanuel came to the same conclusion I did after close examination of the belt. There was NOTHING wrong with it!

NB: The belt had been incorrectly fitted to a member's Zed by Chapman & Chapman.

Hi Guy's, we finaly got a response from the Rep

I see some of you guy's like paying out on others, but as you can see on the attachment I only recieved a response yesterday along with Chewy. I didn't do this to start any I'M RIGHT HE'S WRONG argument, I did it because I came across a fault and thought that you guy's needed to know. Now as you can see the belt is ok and it's just the marks on the belt which are misleading which can cause misallignment. As state in the email, all timing belts in stock and future productions will be marked correctly. In future please be patient and understand that these things sometimes take time.

    Thanks

    Emmanuel

    Dear Sir,

Following my visit to AMEC in Queensland I was then overseas for 6 weeks and unfortunately while I did initiate action, I overlooked following details through to a conclusion. The Xmas close of course caused further delay. I resumed on Jan 16th.

I regret & apologise for the delay in responding to them.

Following a call from AMEC on 16th Jan I have now got myself up to date and I have conveyed our findings to them.

A thorough comparison of our belt was carried out against a Genuine Nissan belt.

The belt profile, tooth count and number of teeth coincide exactly with the genuine Nissan belt.

Further, a comparison check of our existing stock against the genuine sample shows the following:

Belt thickness: average 0.2mm thicker than genuine. This very minor variation, given that this is a 228 tooth belt, would have no impact on the timing of the drive.

Also I highlight that the DAYCO material is "HT" that is manufactured with high grade HSN rubber (Highly Saturated Nitrile Rubber) specifically designated for high performance engines.

Comment was made about the "timing guide marks" which are placed to assist assembly. While ours are correctly positioned at the appropriate teeth, the genuine belt markings are directly over the tooth valley, whereas some of ours are slightly up the incline of the tooth.

These timing marks appear to be the only issue as in all other respects the belts appear identical.

If these marks, which are only there for reference, are incorrectly used to time the engine when fitted, then it could mean on a V6 DOHC application, that you will end up after a couple of rotations with a 1 tooth advance / retard situation.

NOTE: While we have been selling these belts for some time with only one query, we recognise that this is complex installation and access is awkward, and despite that fact that the `timing marks' are only a guide, as a responsive manufacturer we are now having ours placed directly in line with the tooth valleys.

All current stock & future supply will be so marked.

For our engineer & project managers here, it would be a good exercise if we can see one stripped down and observe installation.

Do you have a trusted service person related to your AUSTRALIAN 300ZX ASSOCIATION located in Melbourne somewhere as it would be helpful if our engineers can participate directly with them.

I've arrange with Dayco to test their belt on an engine in Melbourne to

confirm my explanation of the problem to Dayco. So the issue is still in progress.

    Thanks for the update ...

I haven't had any problems but now I feel happier about leaving the Dayco belt on for another 75000km .
