    Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anyone can please help me find out more about this Z32. My mate bought it over 10 years ago and it wasn't until I made a deal with him for the car that I noticed it had no import plate, VIN (jap or Australian) or 17 digit australian VIN number. I ended up finding the jap number on the firewall and was amazed to find it was the 10th TT Z32 2+0 every made and through all my research is the first ever Z32 TT imported into Australia. It also only has 68k on the clock making it more amazing.
Does anyone know of anyway I can cross reference this chassis number to find out the original Australian VIN or import details? I can get new Nissan vin plate and have it filled out but it was registered here and im trying to find those details out. Any help would be awesome. Maybe someone recognizes the car?
Other than the 2 plates on the rad support panel, is there any other parts in the vehicle that could help me ID it?
Ive tried going through CarVX and that gave me the basic details however when i got a report they told me they have no other details for the vehicle because it was exported so long ago.

My 1989 slicktop vin is Z32000175
Not sure why you have 5 in there.
My guess would make it a 1991 model,
    just a guess.

I'm not sure as I'm new to the 300ZX thing but I'd say that's the Targa top designation maybe. Looking at that JDM paperwork I also posted the 500001 started in July 1989 which matches when the turbo model was released. I've cross referenced it as well with a customer's CZ32 which is also starting with a 50 and is also a Targa top.

Hey man, was this the one you posted on facebook? There's no australian vin for them. What makes you think it was the first TT imported in to australia? There were a lot imported with no compliance plate at one stage so no green/yellow/pink plate doesn't really mean that much apart from making it harder to register.

It was already registered in australia before so it had a compliance plate and australian vin at some stage but was removed, thats what im trying to find out about.
Why do i think its the first? It was built july 89, its build number 10, most turbos went to the states initially to fill orders after it was released at the motor show and that doesnt include what stayed in japan and were shipped to other counteries. If there is one of the 9 prior turbo models here id love to see it.

    IB ?????

Just because it was made early doesn't mean it came to Australia early.

In the nineties, they had to have a green compliance plate fitted.

Sometime (I think around 2010), there was an opertunity to import early Z32s without needing to fit a compliance plate. Rules were changed to close that loophole.

Fair enough, but definitely more reasons to try to find out the history of this one

What makes you think that? You are right in that it is the 10th turbo 2+0 built for the Japanese market. But the Australian importation date is impossible to determine without the Australian VIN or compliance plate.

Are you sure it has no aussie VIN? During compliancing the workshop has to etch the aussie VIN somewhere but the location was not standardised so look around the engine bay - I found mine around on the RH shocktower.

The prefix 5###### on the chassis number indicates a turbo model (2+0 or 2+2). Stuff like roof type is only listed in the model code on the silver build plate on the rad support.

Are you basing this purely off the fact it was registered? Look around the bay for the remnants of a plate - discoloured paint, rivet holes etc. If it truly had the plate removed and aussie VIN scratched off that's really odd - I know wreckers do this alot so it could be something dodgy.

US market Z32s have a completely different chassis listing. That document only lists frames for the JDM.

Hey man, if that's the 10th Z32 off the production line, then you got yourself a pretty cool car.
Chances are that it arrived in Oz towards the late 90's.

Ah ok, do domestic vehicles were given a different prefix depending on the country they went to?
All good. I still think it would be very cool to have the 10th JDM one. Either way would love to find the details for this vehicle when it came in to Australia

Very possible mate, thanks for your response.
I really wish I could track when it was complied with some sort of register using that body number.
I know it's not stolen and would really like to find out when it got here.
    Cheers

Just out of interest. Carsales has 1989 Z32 with a release date of January 89.

Just email vimports@infrastructure.gov.au they will be able to tell you the month and year the vehicle was imported into Australia.

I have had to contact them in the past as my Z32 has an AU Vin stamped onto the drivers strut tower, but has no Aus compliance plate as it was brought in "under the 15 years or older confirmation import option". Regardless the information was all held on a database by Infrastructure.gov.au
