Hi All Need some help deciding wheel size for Akebono 14" 350z brakes, Currently looking at some Miro 111. Size options are 18" x 8.5 with 35 offset and 18" x 9.5 with 40 offset. or I could go with 19" with same width's and offset. Was also looking at getting the front with a 22 offset and if required have them machined. If anyone also has some pic's of 19" rims on a 2 x 2 can you post with tyre size so I can see how they look. Miro111
Spoke design will play into it. I have Brembo F50 calipers and 355mm rotors. Rays Gram Lights (that are currently for sale hint hint) 18x8.5 +30 cleared no problems. Previous wheels Racing Hart CP035 18x8.5 +32 required a 5mm slip on spacer. I have a feeling a +35 in the front will sit awfully close to the caliper. I suppose you could correct this with a spacer (5mm is nothing in the scheme of things) and extended studs if that’s the only size available in your chosen design. 18x8.5 +22 would probably be a better choice and roll the guard or tuck it in with some camber if needed.
Rob I did look at your wheels but unfortunately not the look I was going for. Still trying to decide on 18's or 19's
Also found out that Miro 112's look similar but are designed for Big Brakes. Miro Type 112 is specially designed to fit big brake calipers. Its lighter weight also makes TYPE 112 the perfect upgrade for performance minded enthusiasts.
No worries it was a throwaway comment -hope th numbers helped in any case. With reference to your thread title diameter won’t affect you brake clearance once you’re looking at 18” and above.
Not necessarily Rob, spoke shape changes as the barrel grows so possible one size could clear while the other fouls. Its all down to the specific design though and testing is the only way to find out. Offset etc. is all fairly academic with big brakes. Funnily (or annoyingly) the wider 9.5" pair of Kais on mine don't clear the front brembos while the 8.5"s do easily just because of the taper on the spokes with concave designs. Tony, 18" is generally the limit on a Z32, a few people like the look of 19"s but not too many plus you're really hurting the ride quality with so little side wall.
Thanks Rob and Fists So far all my research shows that the preferred option is 18's for the Zed, I already run on 18" x 8" with 35 offset but the 14" brakes currently foul. So a perfect opportunity to go shopping and fill out the guards a little bit better.
I assume they foul on the spokes not the barrel or anything? If you're buying from a retailer they should be able to tell you whether the wheels in question suit the 370z track but if buying second hand test fitting is about you only option unless someone happens to run the exact same wheel on something with the same brakes.
I have some very similar wheels for sale as it turns out. Have the brake clearance you need. I'll PM you.
To make sure the wheels you are looking at fit, I would suggest you download the Akebono templates from CPZ; Front; https://conceptzperformance.com/items/3217/docs/FrontTemplate.pdf Rear; https://conceptzperformance.com/items/3217/docs/RearTemplate.pdf
I am running KOYA Racing semi-forged rims, front 19" x 9.5" + 37 mm offset (255/30/19 tires), rear 19" x 10.5" + 40 mm offset (255/30/90 tires). No real issues - also running K-Sport 380 mm brake rotors font and rear. Guards had to be rolled which is a given. KOYA Racing will make any offset required. Needed 19" rims for these monster brakes but no regrets - awesome stopping with great looks with 8 pot front calipers and 6 pot rear calipers with gunmetal wheels
If you want to circuit race with 19" wheels you are going to struggle with tyre size and availability That said, 380mm rotors won't fit under 18" (mostly). You limit on rotor size is around 362mm to fit under "most" aftermarket wheels. Supercars quote 395mm rotors under RimStock 18x11 but they are a specific wheel barrel and spoke design AND the rotors are mounted well inboard of the wheel mounting flange. Lots of people have gone big-rotor and then been forced to into 19" wheels and then discovered there is a poor tyre choice from both size and compound. If it is a drag car, then different story
Why not go one more inch, one can never have to much of a good thing. I all so have the above in 19 as well as stock wheels with brand new rubber. Happy Z days,Cheers Peter .
Meanwhile I'm regretting 18"s due to the weight, cost of tyres and effect on ride quality and traction on rough surfaces
