Hey all, sorry for the vague title but unsure of how to best describe. Turned the zed over for the first time in a few weeks. First thing noticed was low on coolant. Put in maybe 300ml. Concerning but not a big issue maybe a little seepage somewhere I thought. After 2 or 3 minutes of running I shudder down and do some more checks. Notice the top radiator metal hard pipe is EXTREMELY hot, will the bottom hard pipe has no heat at all in it, maybe 10 degrees above ambient temp outside. What could this be? I'm imagining possible stuck thermostat or similar. I ran the car for another few minutes, temp gauge teasing normal, no weird noises or smells, but pipes remain unevenly heated. On a unrelated note.....anyone wanting by a yellow vert with no overheating issues lol
Until the thermostat opens you are going to get a large difference between the top and bottom pipes. Only question that needs answering is the thermostat opening as it should and pump operating ? Also the temp going into the radiator will always be higher than the temp going out once the water flows through. Cheers Dave
Sit it on a block of wood in a saucepan of hot water with a thermometer measuring temperature as you bring the water to boil. Confirm it begins opening at the correct oem temperature. If not bin it and get a new one, preferably genuine.
Yeah no know how to test a thermostat when it's out of the car......but in it? Not really looking to strip down the front of the engine, but if I have to no geuss I will
Save yourself some heartache & buy an infra red temp gun. They're something like $32.00 on ebay for a cheap one.
