Come on Rob you sound like you're fishing for business, go back and read the thread.

    Magnaflow 14862 x2 $800
UAS anti drone cross over $500
    Fitting $500
$1800 getting close to UAS's online price of $1995 for a custom cat back.

Fingers crossed and hope you are happy with it and doesn't detract from performance.

lol go back and read my replies

I think if he were to walk into a muffler shop and get a quote to have something made up the bottom line would be significantly less than the figures you've mentioned, and much less again than the cost of buying a ready made system and shipping it from Japan.

At 150,000JPY you're looking at roughly $1800AUD before shipping. In my experience that buys a hell of a lot of your choice of muffler and assembly on your car (as opposed to a generic system made on a jig) without compromising on quality. Unless you have a particular thing for a particular brand that isn't available here the economics of buying a system v having one made just doesn't work out, especially in the current economic climate.

Really it's up to Adam to make that assessment.

    Update (07.01.17)

Just a quick update, I cleaned up the pipe and then applied a generous amount of muffler putty and have dried it onto the pipe. So far so good the holes have been seal and I'm going to let it sit over night before I apply the exhaust bandage tape around the putty to double up the repair. Hopefully if all goes well the exhaust wont be droning anymore and I will have a little more time to do what I gotta do to fix the pipe.

Yes I did abs and after looking at the ebay link carefully as much as it would be nice to just order that system the seller doesn't ship overseas it clearly states pickup only. now i could ask them if they are willing but i would expect it would cost just as much to ship as the ebay is listing for just the system and thats if they don't shaft me over and add extra. Also even though its a genuine stillen exhaust its not the same as the SMZ exhuast as the tips are not the bulldog round tips I'm looking for. But thank you anyways for the link and if I dont have any luck with my other options I can always try and see what they say.

I appreciate the suggestion brisz and like I said I know I'm being picky and what not but to me either 3 of the special edition exhaust meet my build guidelines that is if I can get my hands on them. Going custom is just pipe dream at this point in time as I never really considered do this at all and just thought Id ask the question and see what you guys think.

And yes I do agree that getting a second hand muffler might be the best, most available and most economical option I could go for and I'm am definitely leading towards going that route at this point in time. If my temp repairs hold out for the time being I will look at all my options carefully before making a decision.

Also I know the special edition exhaust were designed for turbo models but as I said Im not after performance or sound I just want the look really and I know that the OEM turbo and na exhaust are the same so it doesn't matter you can fit those exhaust systems to either model. Just like my TT suspension in my NA, as far as I know I'm the only 300ZX in the world who has the OEM setup in my NA which in my eyes is one of the many special features that sets my car apart from the rest of the 300ZX's out there.

Anyways does anyone know if Adelaide Z cars is still in operation, I looked them up on google and it says they closed down and when I looked at they forum activity they haven been only since 2015:(.

Thanks Rob, I appreciate all the suggestions by everyone really, its why I posted this help thread and why I am still thinking about and looking at what options I have available to me to either repair, replace or to upgrade I just want the best and hopefully by the end of all this I'll be happy with my decision thanks to everyone's help.

I did email a local muffler shop but they haven't replied to email and I think I'm going to have to visit the shop personally so I can see how much and what kind of system i can get replicated to make the exhausts I'm looking for. Ill keep everyone posted when I have spoken to them and go from there.

No worries brisz I appreciate all the suggestions trust me. I was actually thinking about buying a brand new rear pipe and muffler from Nissan but I think I would have to order it from Japan and I think it would cost me at least $600+ just for 1 muffler. So thats why I am considering a custom exhaust system as well as the OEM system.

At first i thought the holes were too big for the putty but after applying big dabs of putty it started to harden up and before I knew it the holes were gone. I ran the car for 15 minutes to cure the putty in place and the drone was gone so fingers crossed it hold out for me.

I have no doubt my advice to go back and read my posts will not be followed as it has little to do with your intentions.

So let me help you, the only reference I made to Fujitsubo pricing was by an estimate landed and a link to yahoo auctions Japan. $1500 AUD and 98,455 JPY.

But of coarse you chose to see the most obscure RRP price on Fujitsubo's website, but being a reseller you would know that is not a sell price but of coarse trying to promote another option you used it.

Its been said time and time again Rob you are in conflict with the general ethos of this forum, time and time again.

    Update 20.01.17

Just an update guys, still havent decided what to do yet. Cant seem to find a second hand rear pipe and muffler from anyone atm i havent looked at custom exhausts yet. And after 2 weeks of care free zedding the muffler putty has broken off the pipe exposing the hole once again so im back to sqaure one. Bloody pain this is to deal with.

For a bit more tempory fixing Adam years back I had a similar problem on the daily, I used an exhaust wrap fix. Not 100% on details but you wrapped the exhaust hole then wound some wire round it to hold it in place. Similar to the heat wraps for headers, etc but was specifically for fixing exhaust splits & holes. One of the permatex ones from supercheap. Gave me a good six months to chase the new exhaust.

Having tried both a veilside and a Zees system on my NA (both 3") I can say that the sound was something between insane and unbearable..... especially with the full veilside. Both systems are now on my TT's, and considerably more sedate. (Zees centre muffler and rear piping is terrible btw- all mild steel)

I finally opted for the UAS centre muffler with Magnaflow rears with 2.5" piping. Can appreciate that this option is not something that you are really willing to explore (being more of a purist).

Although I haven't perused yahoo auctions of late, there used to be an abundance of factory late model exhausts in the expected pristine condition, where the highest cost was freight.

Also, having seen the current holes in your system, can suggest using a 2-part product called "Selleys Knead-It"... smells like cats piss when its baking on, but should easily seal those holes

Thanks lid yeah I have this stuff at work thats called exhaust bandage which you wrap around the exhuast but you need to seal the hole first which is why I was hoping the putty which was a bit easier to apply.

One option I've been told to do is cut the ends off a coke can and then cut a slit through the middle so I can wrap the can around the holes. Then I can wrap the can onto the exhaust with fibreglass exhaust repair bandage and heat up the bandage till it goes hard. To finish I would get to radiator clamps and clamp the ends of the can so it seals the repair up. if done right this will probably become a permanent repair for the long term from what I've been told.

Still I would like to fix the problem properly but its all to do with time and money, when your trying to buy a house with my wife and 2 year old son its really hard to spend more then $150 on the Z right now, so that's why this is taking so long to fix for me in my current situation.

Thanks for the tip though tim, I think i might have to fix this in a better way using the bandage repair I just described and then I can have plenty of time to decide what course of action to purse with my exhaust system.

I do sell Shelley's products at work, so I'll have to look out for it next week when I'm back at work, thanks for the tip. Also thank you for the advice about the larger sized exhaust with the drone noise. With the holes I currently have my exhaust sounds like one of those Honda buzz buckets driving down the street and the drone is unbearable sometimes, thank god I have a stereo which I can kinda block out the noise.

I was planning to just keep the stock sized exhaust pipes and just have a custom system made to look like the stille, SR71 or Tommy Karia exhaust in that size. I would think this might reduce the noise abit and maybe keep the price down for getting it made. But like I said I haven't even gone to a shop to get a quote yet. I'm hoping it would roughly cost more around about $800 to get it made and maybe fitted which I don't really know is a realistic price to pay for a custom exhaust but that's what I'm budgeting for atm.

    Good Idea... but!

You will need to find something a bit more substantial than a coke can as you will find it will "burn through" within a matter of weeks.
I did the same with a milo tin on my VN Commodore years ago. Use something thcker and pre-mold it before fitting it then apply the exhaust bandage and wire. The bandage has to be tight as, because it sets pretty firmly!

    Update 04.02.17

Hey guys just thought I'd update everyone on my current situation with this bloody pain of an butt exhaust repair job. Currently I have found no where local to purchase second hand OEM rear mufflers from anywhere and so I am really thinking I will have to go and get a custom exhaust made and installed at some stage down the road which is fine.

Anyways while I'm working out what course of action to take with the custom exhaust idea, I had to find a way to patch the holes in the mean time so I didn't have to listen to constant droning coming from the exhaust on my daily commute to work and back everyday, as well as try and buy more time for me to save enough funds so I could commit to fixing this repair job properly and not waste more money.

Luckily for me while looking on Amazon a week or 2 ago, I found a simple but effective looking exhaust patch repair clamp product that i thought might just do the trick in blocking this big arse holes in my rear pipes and so I purchased a pair of them and waited about week and half for them to arrive from the US.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002N5PQOA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So today I decided to try and install the patch clamp sets onto the affected exhaust pipe and see what happens.

    They were pretty simple to install really a little fiddly at times with the heat proof foam gasket getting out of position and what not but once I got the stainless steel screw locked into the clamp's bracket setup it was all smoove sailing from there. I'm glad I purchased 2 of these clamp sets as one was just not wide enough to cover the entire exposed hole completely and so I fitted both clamps side by side like so;

Once they were installed I quickly jumped into the car and started her up and now there is no more exhaust droning sound coming from the rear muffler pipes anymore[TIS]:zlove: and that is all I wanted to archive from this temp fix repair job.

I don't know how long the clamps will last but for the $20 I spent buying them from amazon to me they were well worth the money.

  17. Got a pair. Pm'd.

Your pic shows a cylindrical muffler, I would get a flatter oval-ish profile shape so it has more ground clearance.

Replicate the exhaust in stainless. Most systems are either 316 or 304. Though alot of exhaust shops use 600g stainless, cheaper and pliable for mandrel bending etc.

If you want the factory look and sound, only mild steel will replicate your original setup. You have to remember the tensility of the materials you are using. Mild steel is softer with softer sound, stainless is stronger harsher sound, titanium is the harshest etc etc.

I would build the exhaust in stainless(304g) factory size, and also have a fabricator replicate your mufflers in stainless, weld on your factory tips. Have the silencers and mufflers packed with fibreglass, not stainless packing.
Have the silencers/mufflers break apart so you can repack the mufflers when the packing fails in the future.

You want a fabricator to build your exhaust, not an apprentice at an exhaust shop.

Thanks for all that info i have been looking at universal exhaust tips and mufflers which i thought if i buy myself will help me to replicate the look im after. I do want to get something thats more durable then stock if its not too expensive but thats all part of learning about this stuff and with my temp repair i can look for months now and get the right setup the first time around.
