I swear I've seen a thread on this before but I can't find it with search now.

Does anyone know the paint code for the blackish strip between the targas & the windscreen?

I don't think it's 732, from memory I think some kind of green was mentioned.

You can just rattle can black that part IMO.

Take off the targa partitions, mask off the area well and use a can of black plasti dip and give it plenty of coats and allow to dry. ;)

Ive used it on the windscreen, targa trims and they've come up a treat.

Yep, Plasti Dip is the duck's ........

.. but, the surface you are applying it to must be as smooth as the proverbial baby's ....

I had some 732 black mixed up in a spray can last week to spray some parts and interestingly there is a green ? as well as other colours added to it in the mixing process. it was not enough to see it change the black to green but the small component added was defiantly a green.
    Cheers

Wait... the strip between the targas and windscreen should be body colour.

I had black vinyl on the section you are referring to. I took it off, but actually preffered it as it makes the car look like a full glass canopy from bonnet to boot.

They are discussing the bracket that is mounted "dorsal" and between the targa glass.

It is always black, but I have seen a pic of a polished metal style.

    Yeah mine too...

Mine was a shiny black vinyl but wore out at the ends so I smoothed it off and sprayed it with Plasti Dip... that stuff goes great on wiper arms too!

It's called a "targa hook". You can buy replacement pieces but they're a real pain to change.

Yes he's right it is known as the targa hook. It has tamper proof screws holding to the roof. Looking at these pics I wonder if there is something that needs to be held inside the roof when bolting it on. [IMG][IMG]

You would be correct, there's nuts on the underside, you have to remove the ceiling head trim to get to them.

Looking at doing this myself - anyone got that glossy finish either with vinyl wrap or plastidip? I was just thinking of painting it with a rattle can and an ungodly number of layers of clearcoat to hide the orange peel

I just carbon wrapped mine without removing it and it looks as good as factory new.

    I'm a she, FYI.

It's a bit of a pain to replace, but not THAT bad if you have a bit of patience and a socket extension. I did mine years ago and from memory the replacement part really wasn't too costly at all.

The targa hook isn't between the targas and the windscreen dude. Maybe OP should clarify which part of the car they're talking about.

If it's the targa hook, it's not painted. It's gloss black plastic which is why it tends to look weathered after a while.

Yes, but we know the OP is asking about the black bracket between the two targa glass inserts. The Targa hook.

Thanks, I am doing this when mine starts to peel.

No, I'm referring to the hard section of roof in between the front of the targa panels & the top of the windscreen. After taking another look at the car, there's another strip the same colour between the back of the targas & the rear hatch. Definitely a deep/dark green colour, close to but not actually black.
You can see it very clearly here:

After trolling around looking for images, it appears likely that this has been a PO mod at some stage, to make it look like the whole roof is glass.

As I said in my OP though, I could've sworn I saw the question asked & answered in another thread, just can't find it now.

My original intention was to restore to factory condition, which was why I was looking for the specific paint code. Looks like it'll be repainted body colour.

OK then back to what Instamatic was saying.
    Should be body colour.

But as I have had, also a black vinyl strip.
Or as others have stated, paint it black by carefully masking the car around those sections.

You could easily vinyl cover it, buy the vinyl on eBay and not worry about the green tint in the Z black paint, since it is a mod anyway.
