are these the ebay/chinese type ?

I fitted a set of china coilovers recently to a z32, 8kg and 6kg sring rates. the ride wuality was actually really good.

For the street i was happy with teh rates and adjustability, the question with cheapie coilovers is how long they last on the street before a shock blows out

    Not quite http://www.worldtimeattack.com/index.php/hammer-time-tim-slade-to-pilot-mca-s13-silvia/

Big price range though, from about $1400 for basic monotubes to $5k+ external res fanciness.

I commented on your fb post but will comment here too so it's searchable.

I'm running a set of MCA XRs with 9kg/mm front and 4.5kg rear, I asked for something along the lines of a tarmac rally set up and in my uneducated they do quite well there. The front is very stable and carves pretty nicely through the twisties although understeer is still pretty easy to find if you push too hard on the front (my poor technique involves putting a lot of work on the front tyres). Rears seem to be about on the tipping point, the dampers allow me to tune it in or out of being able to kick it out for some oversteer to get around the hairpins.

Combined with nolathane subframe and diff bushes the rear is kinda bouncy and rides a bit rough through old streets but it smooths out nicely with some speed in the mountains.

Currently around 300hp. An NA diff and subframe, a few bushes and a rear strut brace are the only other mods to handling from stock.

Thanks for the reply on both formats.

I have heard nothing but good feedback about the MCA's. I called them today and had a good chat. I was trying to find out if it was worth spending the extra $$ for their red series and they talked me out of it. They recommended a set of the X-R for my purposes. I haven't talked spring rates yet but ill do that next week when I order a set.

Their opinion was that as I want the car for mixed track purposes (drag, drift, race) the XR's would be best suited. They said that the red series would only be of benefit if I were focusing on one activity.

So ill order a set next week and Ill let you all know how they go

Did they suggest doing any testing with your car? Usually when they start making coilovers for a car they offer free installation in exchange for getting to do some R&D with your car. They've done full race units before (Tektrader had some made up) but mine were the first street units actually intended for a Z32, being in Canberra I didn't opt to take my car up but you're a bit closer.

Although if you've got an LS in there it might not be quite what they're looking for.
