Hi guys so I got Trent from chequered tuning to put in a nistune for my Z and do a dyno tune.
I was able to get 116rwkw at the end of it and the first base run gave me 105rwkw.
Anyway my Z has done 340,000+ kms and is an AT N/A. Was wondering if this is an acceptable number for a non turbo.
Just wanted your thoughts on this guys as I'm a noob at this Hahaaa. But I am really happy with my Z ATM.

Please don't hate guys :) just wanted to learn a bit more

Its about right for a high KM auto N/A car. Any other mods? Pod filter? catback exhaust?

my na auto made 114?kw, rebuild motor (less then 10k old) cat back and thermos.
all dynos read differently and the auto is a massive power drain.
i would say 116 is a decent number for the age.

The quoted figure for the NA Z32 in advertising literature when the cars were new is 166kW.
This would be engine horsepower at the flywheel, not at the rear wheels.
Rear wheel figures will be lower due to drive train losses.
Given the kilometres travelled, the measured output could be considered accurate.
Have you done a compression check on the engine?

    BigCol That's what she said...

10 or so years ago Vic had a dyno day where a number of NA zeds were put on the rollers. The 3 unmodified ones were all in the 100-120rwkw bracket. At that stage they were all 150k+ kilometres on the odometer so your figure seems about right given an approx extra 100k of driving.

I reckon that you should be happy that it is still running at all with 340K + ......

Hahaaa ya the guy o got it off said he had a complete engine rebuild done around 260,000km from the Z shop.
But ya the only other mod is a pod filter. But I do want to change the exhaust piping to maybe 2.25'/2.5'.
    Plus change my suspension.

My NA manual zed is quite modified except for the engine internals & ive got a Nistune ecu that ill be installing early next year hopefully once i get my parts from Coz hopefully by the end of the month, so will see what ill be able to get on the dyno however mine is just about to hit 280k so not as high as OP's zed.

My mods list includes underdrive pulleys, 3" catback exhaust, new cats to be installed, extractors, injectors have been sonic cleaned, 1pc aluminium tailshaft on order, border air box...cant think of anything else that would help with power output that ive got on the zed

Years ago we did a dyno day here in Adelaide. Our zed at the time pulled 123 if i recall correctly. And that was with an auto box, full aftermarket exhaust (albeit one muffler had collapsed) and pod filter up front. Oh also has a fancy japspec wigged out ecu. That probably helped but saying that our mates car which is also a NA Auto with a full exhaust and stock ecu. And with less kms on the engine, pulled 124. So for the amount of kms you have and lack of aftermarket support, you're bang on.

Crazy to think that modern small shit box cars from factory punch more then these old girls do haha.

It's interesting for dyno results now we have to consider the age of the engines. Our cars really are getting on in age.

When I just joined this forum no one would have ever bothered posting mileage, just mods.

Yes I'm loving the fact that after all the mileage she's done, she is still going well.
Plus the previous owner hadn't driven this for 3 months and it was just sitting in a shed. I have been planning to get an exhaust system but haven't been able to find a good one. So been thinking of getting a custom one made.
I want to change the headers too but still not sure about that because of the loud noise it might make.
Sorry if I sound stupid, I don't want these mods to start chopping cars on the street (don't wanna waste fuel on that), I just want a good ol' z32

The thing is, stating a "Kw" power tells no real stories at all.
This is where the comparison between a "modern day shitbox" and these cars becomes blurred.
The figure may look impressive at first glance but without the full dyno story, it can be quite misleading.

Is why I pay little attention to Kw figures alone. Im interested in the shape of the torque curve, and the torque peak figure @ rpm.

That is what will tell any sort of performance story!!!!

    YES!!!

    Talk is where it's at!!

Oh wait sorry TORQUE is where it's at unless you drive a Honda, then it's all about talk.

I agree entirely with your statement, if wanting to look further into the characteristics of each vehicle and the way it uses its available power. My reference to the modern day shitbox making same figures, was merely i pass to suggest its pretty common and easy for manufactures to output this much power, without going into all the fine variables that the engineers did back in the day to produce the zed engine, etc. Hearing 120kw is pretty common. If not boring.

Was talking to a workshop up north of the sunshine coast over the last week. They had a poor condition NA come in after it had been at another workshop. The first workshop had installed nismo 555s without a tune and wondered why it wouldn't run.

I arranged some NA injectors from mungyz to send over and the car was tidied up and dyno'd yesterday.

Headers, cat back and that was about it. I guessed 115kw. Was pretty close.

So a 11kw gain ? Hardly seems worth while on a na versus cost of nistune and tuning ??

How much was your tune ? 450 ?

    That's like 10% man. Would pay 450 for 10% every time ;)

Brad up there at TurningPoint is a seriously intelligent man and high end tuner.
Any of you QLD guys who are serious, Id highly recommend you travel up there for tuning and diagnostics.
Brad knows his shite very well.
