I've wondered for a while how possible it would be (with a mill and a welder) to retrofit a VQ or VR OEM or after market manifold onto a VG. Depends on runner diameter leading to overall length, dictating how well they align.
Yeah, but the cost to do that would be more than making the whole damn plenum... but I'm guessing that wasn't the point of your post
Thought this was pretty interesting. It appears to be a partial CAD or similar model for the Cosworth VQ35DE manifold. Intriguing. I like the space at the back of the motor.Makes it a dick to fit top feeds though.
The design on the camaro one probably isn't amazing, it's just a merged pipe before the same setup as our stock plenum and merging the two banks probably just adds turbulence in the wrong places if the plenum doesn't have any compensation for the pulses. In a V6 having one plenum per bank gives you pretty good pulse separation so I wouldn't be merging the banks unless you're using the more fancy techniques seen in the LS and VQ chambers that basically have trumpets inside the plenum, and obviously a version well designed, lots of CAD and trial and error needed I'm guessing. Plus it has 90 degree bends instead of smooth arc and the plenums don't look like they taper. Tony's low profile topfeed setup could be useful if you find a good plenum suited to the VG. Out of curiosity I'll keep an eye out for left-over plenum gaskets or cheap plenums from 350s to mock up against the VG stuff.
You're right about the Camaro, I realised that not long after I posted it. You're also right about the damn difficulty doing this right, such an immense gamble without CAD. I'd be keen to see anything you come up with. Good reminder about the under plenum top feed, forgot about that.
Some more curiosities. VQ35 variable intake manifold for an early noughties Altima. I think I need to order me some gaskets and see how far off this is. Would be awesome to get a variable runner manifold and hook the actuator up to the ECU. And another, VG30E plenum from a early 90's Pathfinder. This thing could be damn near perfect if the inlet wasn't pointing the wrong bloody way
