Hi all, I'm not sure what section to post this but I guess this is as good as any.
It's no surprise to any Zed owner that we all end up wanting a new or better looking steering wheel. Our 20yr+ units end up looking pretty nasty and worn out, no surprise. We have many options with most costing more than we like but those of you who have the patience to follow the process may like this alternative I have just used. This is not an intentional plug for this product.
I watch a lot of car resto/build shows on Turbo max, it recently showed a kit that allows you to clean, strip, rejuvenate, re-colour and seal a leather steering wheel. I investigated and purchased this product and have been going through the process over the last 6 days. As I said at the beginning this requires patience, NO RUSHING, but the end result is bloody remarkable.
This product is the only type of its kind that is approved by Rolls Royce and Concourse de Elegance USA when no other option is available on those very expensive vintage car resto jobs, the fact is this works great but takes TIME.
Leatherique Steering Wheel Kit- the kit will easily restore at least 3 units maybe more. Its available online and there are Youtube videos also.
I have restored 1 and will put that on the zed and remove the current one and restore it to sell. whoever gets it when its done will think its a new one.
The kit sells for about $75-$80. Hope this info helps someone.

Don't know the product so not knocking it but rejuvenating a worn out steering wheel is time consuming & results can vary.
For around $230 (including postage both ways) you can have Peter from planetsoarer.com very professionally recover your
steering wheel with OEM quality genuine leather.

    Mine done by Peter:-

Sorry to run atad off topic.. but just had to say, Pete's a good bloke, did a great job on mine, (and fast, turned mine around in like two days, door to door).. but, it has always felt a little thinner than the original. Yours looks correct Carz, more like the original should be.

Anyway, Vulcan, please post some pics if you can mate, would be great to see the result.

    cheers.
    Chris.

note: I did my wheel off the car. I would not do it fitted as this demo shows. JM2CW

As stipulated quite clearly in my initial post, this IS time consuming. Total actual time spent working on the wheel was about 1hr 15 mins, the rest is waiting in between stages up to 48 hrs. However it is very inexpensive, 1 kit can do at least 3 jobs and you get the satisfaction of seeing the final result of your efforts. I will post pics when I have completed the final coat tomorrow, but it look bloody great even now.
